Default Tacoma clutch adjustment?

I just bought a 2001 Tacoma SR5 4x4 TRD with 5 speed, 2.7L engine, 31K miles on it. The clutch seems to engage pretty high up, at the top of the pedal travel. Haven't gotten a Chiltons or other shop manual on it yet, but was wondering where the clutch adjustment is made. Not just looking to adjust pedal free play, I'd like to adjust at the transmission side or wherever the actual adjustment is. Can't see the adjustment from the engine compartment - is it under the truck with a slave cylinder on the tranny?

From what I can find, the service manual only shows adjustment at the pedal.

Default Thanks and advice on shop manual..?

I can look under there and probably figure it out. Does the manual state that this is the clutch adjustment? Is the clutch self-adjusting otherwise?

Also, what aftermarket shop manual is generally the best for the Tacoma? Chilton, Haynes, etc...? I've always liked Bentleys for the Audis and BMWs I've owned but I don't know if Bentley makes one for the Tacoma.

The only adjustment there is, for the clutch pedal free play. There is not an adjustment for the clutch engagement. It use a hydraulic master cylinder and a hydraulic slave cylinder. It is self adjusting. The usual causes of high pedal release are, clutch disc worn, or clutch pressure plate fingers/springs not functioning properly in some way.
I have seen people tear up clutches in 7K or less a few times.
Sounds like you need a clutch soon.
Hope this helps
Victor

Default Worn clutch possibility

Hmmm, I hadn't considered that. The truck is still within the 3 year 36K mile warranty so I will take it to a dealer and have it checked out. Thanks for the heads-up about this possibility. Since I bought it used from a dealer who got it at auction, I don't know its history or how badly it was abused.

The clutch is considered a WEAR item and they probably wont cover it.
But it wont hurt to ask
