    Cool Performance Questions

I am posting this for a friend who just bought a 04 Tundra with the V6. He wants to get a little more horsepower out of it. I was looking for headers and it seemed that the only ones out there were TRD headers. Is there any other manufacturers? Any recommendations for exhaust? Just looking for nice sound with a nice rumble.

I was noticing for intakes that none are made for the V6, have any been adapted from the Tacoma or the V8? I saw that AEM and K&N make intakes.

Also any comments on the TRD supercharger? Does that work with the warranty or not? Is the motor still been reliable?

S&S Autochorme makes headers for the V6. There was a group buy that was just completed. I didn't participate because they aren't CARB legal, so if you friend is in California you might want to mention that. Just do an Ebay search, there is always a pair for sale. As for the power increase I think it is 10hp peak, but there was never a dyno chart posted eventhough another member suposidly had the test truck...

I don't know enough to comment on your other Q's but someone will, maybe.

He can have the supercharger dealer installed and it will be warranted in line with the drivetrain warranty. Only thing is he can pretty well expect some pinging issues. A number of people with SC'd V6s, have gone to a larger pulley=less boost to help solve the pinging issue and still get decent power from the SC. That is what I'm running right now, still a big improvement over the stock V6

The only CARB legal headers at the moment still are TRD. Exhaust he could always go aftermarket muffler retaining stock pipes for decent gains. http://pnw4runners.com/exhaust/exhaust.htm there are some sound bites from V6s with aftermarket mufflers to check out.

At the moment JBA does not make Tundra V6 headers. Unfortunately.

The aftermarket intakes are mainly an expensive way to gain noise.

    Cool

Thanks for the replys, the sound clips are really good. Yeah I realise that the intakes dont gain much but he wanted one, so I was looking to see what is out there. I know on my SHO my car didnt gain much from an intake.

    Default V6 JBA Test vehicle

No JBA dosn't make them for the v6 Tundra. However, one day I was searching the web for JBA tundra v6 headers and came across a part of the jba site that is looking for test vehicles, they are looking for a v6 test vehicle. You have to live in or near the san diego area, this is where they are located. Also, you have to willing to be with out your truck for 2 weeks. But hey you get free headers.

I would have done this but I need my truck for work and can't part with it for 2 weeks, would be willing to do it if it took 1 week. But alas, I bought the ss autochrome headers, the JBA's are to far off and to much money.

Id say get some Downey headers with a custom Y pipe made, 2.5" piping from the Y back with your choice of muffler would give you the most bang for the buck. The supercharger will make a big difference as well.

Im not an advicator of intakes if the vehicle will be used in the dirt.

You could do a bigger throttle body and ported intake. Cams are available. This is gonna apply more power to the higher rpms rather than low end torque.

Anything more will require tearing the motor apart.
Mods: Donahoe TCF coilovers, TC upper arms, rear Bilstein 5100s, Downey headers, 3" exhaust with Spintech Prostreet, BFG MT 285-70-17s on Helo Maxx 6 Chrome, Electric Brake controller. Tsunami RCA converter, PIE AUX adapter, LA Sound amp, MTX 10" band pass sub.

How much of a bigger throttle body do you need? You can't bore it (tried to get this done by DOA Racing, no one would do it because the actual intake walls of the body are too thin) Not only that BUT the body is made to handle up to 700hp (DOA Racing quote)

Cams are going to cost $1k and up. You could get a mild grind on them, but it requires down time. You could port the heads, again more down time for an every day driver. DOA said to me one time that port/polish + cam should equal around another 50hp.

But this was all for a v8. if you go to there sight, they have a lot of nice v6 stuff. DOA , alas it is all for the 3.0 v6
