Default 2000 Tundra problems,concerns

I just purchased a 2000 Tundra limited ac 4x4 and after doing some searches I am concerned about some of the posts I have read about 1st year reliability issues and bugs being worked out. What issues should I be aware of? My truck has 38,675 miles and I am trying to find out if and when the scheduled maintenance was done. I gave local dealer vin he said he could not find anything. Out of state dealership where I purchased from said they did not have that info either. Any help would be appreciated. Great site! Joined last week. Thanks, Cedric

Cedric,

Welcome aboard! The best place to post this question would be in the 'Toyota Tundra' forum for other Tundra owners to view. Perhaps the Moderator will move it there for you.

Early Tundras did have a number of issues but I would guess anything that cropped up on your truck has already been dealt with...hopefully!

I treat any used vehicle I purchase as if it had no maintenance at all when I purchased it unless documentation accompanies it. This is a more expensive approach but worth the peace of mind...Haynes makes a great manual for the 2000-2002 Tundra. You can find them easily on ebay.

For example, if your truck has 60,000 miles on it - go through the entire 0 -60,000 mile maintenance requirements and inspect all other components for wear, especially the braking system.

Replace all the fluids - I'm a full synthetic guy so consider replacing your oil, trans fluid, diff oil, power steering and brake fluid with synthetics - they reduce wear by a factor of 4 but you'll see a tremendous amount of debate here about synthetics. Search 'synthetic' on the site and about 5000 posts will appear!

Best of luck with your new Hot Rod!

Brad
