Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "timing belt's water pump more?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
When doing the t/belt, the water pump are a good idea at that time because you are right there. Then you know you will be safe for a long time. Some times the t/belt idlers are a good thing to look at when you do the belt too. I have included those.
Below is a quote on the Toyota parts you inquired about. If you would like to order these reply to this with your billing/shipping and CC info. .
Couple of question the timing belt's on tundra has to be replaced at 90k or 100k with this in mind and me doing more research on the topic I have one question I know the waterpump has to be replaced too but is it really required to get the (2) idler pulley's replaced too the guy doing this work told me it's one of those thing's he has to tell me if it's bad or not and in most cases there is not a need to replace the (2) idler's inless it's broken or showing wear.Anybody know anything in this topic please speak up..The overall cost of all this work is $500.00 dollars'

When they did my timing belt the idler pulleys were not required, they did the belt, thermostat and water pump. Total cost was just over $1000--but that was here in CA, where everything is more expensive. You could also be in for a tensioner assembly too-if required. It would seem that a less than reputable dealer could tell you need them even if you didn't, so I asked for my old parts back to hopefully keep them honest.
Upgrades: PA 3" Body Lift, Powertrax No-Slip rear, Detroit ezLocker front, Fabtech/Fox front, Wheeler's AALs, TC Front Diff Drop, 16 x 8 MB Wheels, 285/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs, Pioneer Head Unit, Infiniti Reference speakers [front and rear], 150 W bridged amp to bandpass enclosure, 6 CD changer with IR remote, iPod mini and xm hardwired into stereo, Toyota drop in bedliner, and Tonneau cover
I just had my timing belt replaced but decided against the water pump as they wanted another $250 to change it, the total cost for labor and parts was $345.
hey erlk, cruise over to engine/drivetrain and search for my post in one of the timing belt threads with the parts and labor charges for a complete rebuild. short story, i paid 550 in labor for a front end rebuild and a coolant flush, and ~300 in parts.
my timing idlers did not need replacing, but i had the water pump and timing belt tensioner replaced as a precautionary measure. my sister has an old subaru, her water pump went recently, luckily in town...i'd rather replace the part before it's dead, than wait til it breaks in the middle of nowhere and risk being dead myself .
