My 2004 v6 Tacoma 4x4 temperature runs slightly above halfway on the gage. Once there it stays there, but this is appreciably warmer (at least by the gage) than my previous '91 toy. Is this normal running temp in others' experience?
just curious...
Once my 04 V6 4X4 warms up it stays right at the middle of the gauge. Of course I only have about 550 miles on it so far so I'm probably not your best comparison

Without actual numbers these gauges are just a basic reference to the water temp. It could very well be that Toyota has installed a higher temp thermostat for new limits on emissions compared to your 91.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???

I would say that it is perfectly within the normal temp range. I don't have the V6, I have a 2003 DC with the 2.7 liter 4 cylinder. However, my temp gauge shows the exact same thing once the engine is fully warmed up. The needle stays slightly above the halfway point.
my father's 97 taco v6 does the dame thing. 110k miles on it.. and the needle still sits in the exact same spot.
as I understand it.. todays emissions standards require a very narrow temperature range to function properly.. which is the same reason porsche went to a water cooled 911 engine, more control over engine temps.
I have an '04 double cab and my gauge is exactly the same. It worried me for a little while but I think its normal. I've been on very rough 4-lo terrain with the air conditioner running (I'm in Hawaii) for hours at a time and I've never had my temperature climb to higher levels.
I have about nine grand on my 04 Xtra TRD and mine runs the same. I did the three mile up hill climb in Maggie Valley NC going to the Cataloochee Ranch going no more than 25 to 35..it is paved and I pushed it hard (very hard) & no change. It is a good cooling system
My 03 V6 is exactly the same. The needle sits slightly above the half way point. Before this truck, I owned an 02 Tundra. It always stayed in the lower middle half, but I have a friend and a sister-in-law with older Tacomas, and they are the same as mine.
Guess it's how the gauge is calibrated. I installed the Toyota heavy duty fan clutch a while back, but the gauge is the same. Don't worry...
I purchased a 2004 pre runner double cab last year and that was the first thing I noticed. I asked the guy at the dealer and he said that is was normal. I had the truck for a year and it was always the same. The gauge on the 2005 Taco that I have now stays right in the midle.
The temp guage on my '03 S-Runner does the same thing - reads slightly above half-way after warmup, but never moves. Since my '97 Tacoma V-6 never went above the half-way mark (nor have all the other Toyotas we've owned), I kept a close eye on the S-Runner's guage early on, but the reading has been consistent through the first 8,100 miles. Like someone else said, I've just chalked it up to either a hotter thermostat, guage calibration, or both.
