I have noticed what seems like a "squeal" when I accelerate fairly hard when the transmission shifts. I think it is usually between 2nd and 3rd. I have done the drain and refill on the trany several times. I only have 51,500 miles on the truck. I noticed it when I first got the truck, but it only done it then when I had the throttle WFO. Now it seems to happen a little more ofter especially when climbing a hill. I assuming it is the transmission slipping, but should I be very concerned?

I agree, it does sound like it's time to change the serpentine belt.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???

Thanks for the reply's. I would hope that is right, but pardon my ignorance, why would a shift cause your belt to squeal? I dont hear it at all if I accelerate hard from a stop; and I am almost positive that it happens in the higher gears like 2nd to 3rd or maybe 3rd to 4th. Also I had the belt changed at 30,000. FYI: This is and automatic transmission.
Update: Just took a short trip to the store and I intentionally acellerated hard from a stop up this steep hill. No squeal upon takeoff but definite squeal shifing into second.
At the shift the truck is at its highest RPMs, all that mommentum could/would be throwing the belts off the line.
Has anyone else noticed this? Whether it is my belt or the tranny I have been on the board since I bought my Tundra in 2000 and I don't remember anyone else posting anything that sounded similar to this.

I was doing some searching on this when I came across some old post about enging pinging between 1st and 2nd on hard acceleration..hhhmmmmm. I was convinced it was the tranny or maybe the belt but it is a weird sound. I have heard other engine's ping but I thought it sounded different that this.

I've heard the same thing on my 2002 (43K miles). I agree with TRDKEAU. It sounds like the belt. Haven't gotten around to replacing it yet, so I can't tell you for sure.
Probably the cheapest fix to try first and what the heck you'd still have a new belt if it is something else. I replaced mine when it started to squeak on cold mornings but I've heard other vehicle belts squeal on hard throttle up shifts.

I'd bet it was his belt otherwise he'd have been back with a continuation of the problem. If you didn't the first time I'd suggest using a Goodyear Gatorback as your replacement belt. They've worked and lasted well on both my Tundra's as they have for a bunch of members. AutoZone carries them and I'm sure others do also.
