Anyone unhappy with uncoated SSautochrome headers?
I'm getting ready to purchase a set of SSautochromes from ebay, and I was searching the old threads to reassure myself that such a great deal is not too good to be true. Seeing the subject of coating SSautochromes, I have to wonder:
Does anyone who has them regret not getting them coated? Since they are stainless, I would think they should hold up well and the lack of a coating would only cause slightly higher underhood temps. Am I missing anything? I just hate to pay $100 for headers and then pay $300 to have 'em coated if it isn't necessary...
Installed mine last august 2003. Not coated with anything. No leaks, pass smog, no issues. Have not clean them since i installed so they look a little tarnish.
Best mod I did.

I installed mine earlier this year... pretty sweet. They give my truck a nice, throaty tone... plus some extra HP and torque. They get pretty damn hot being uncoated... but not enough that I'm worried about it. They've turned kinda rainbowish... but who cares... you can't see them anyway. They don't leak and they get the job done.

I've had mine on since April of this year and they are discolored a fair amount. One thing I would like to mention is the JBA's I had on my last truck (Chevy) looked disgusting after being on the truck two years. The finish was completely gone and they were starting to get a rusty look to them.
As long as they don't fall apart or start leaking, I wouldn't pay the extra money to get the coated version. Of course, if this was a show truck it would be a different story...
Put mine on about a year ago.... and LOVE them! Not coated. They did turn a bit blueish.. but I have the S/C and Over Drive Crank Pulley and Twin Turbo Supra Fuel pump and... you get the idea. I guess exhaust temps are a BIT higher.. but.... I digress... all said and done... if you wanna coat something, I wrapped my Flowmaster 50 SUV single in dual out with the heat wrap muffler tape... and it reduced the drone in the cab a LOT and I am happy with that.
