Question OBD IV Question?

Does anyone here know if the '04 Toyotas have OBD IV in them? I had some exhaust work done yesterday and the mechanic was telling me some disturbing stuff about it....if it's real! Things like the ECU stores the vehicles milage, no matter what the ODO says....that if you drive over 100MPH for more than a couple of minutes the OBD can alert "someone" (Cops) and a couple other things, GPS type info related......He was probably just pulling my leg, but I just thought I'd see if any of this is true or just BS.

I think he's smoking something or reading sci fi stuff at night. Some of the newer ECU's can record historical data like speed, braking, impact G force plus some other stuff related to precrash information. To date I'm not aware of anyone that has the ability to remotely transmit that information to another agency. The data they seem to collect is minutely compared to the black box in airplanes. There have been several lawsuits where car rental agencies have read with a OBD scanner the history of their vehicles upon return and tried to add extra charges for speeding or in the case of vehicle GPS history for traveling outside the boundary of the rental agreement. So far the rental agencies have lost their cases and in several states been fined for their intrusion. Auto Week magazine has several articles related to this.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???
Some people should not be allowed access to tools without books!!!

Talking Yup.....that's kinda what I thought!

Yeah....the guy that did my exhaust work has been known to party like a wild man once in a while.....
And I think I read about that lawsuit regarding rental places checking the rental cars GPS unit to see if it was taken outta state, etc.
I'd really hate owning anything that could concievably "snitch" on me via memory or up-link. And I think a passive unadvertised "feature" that would do these type of things might be challenged rather quickly in US Courts.
