Default Trd Exhaust= Crap

I currenty am running a 99 SC Tacoma. I had the TRD Single outlet exhaust

from the cat back installed with the supercharger at the time of purchase

from toyota. At 70,000 miles I started noticiing a noise coming from

underneath the truck, especially when i would hit bumps. It sounded like the

exhaust was loose like a really bad squeek pitch. The sound got even worse

after a few days, I took the truck to a nearby toyota dealership and the

mechanic told me i had a Crack in the back of my muffler. I was speachless.

He basically sald i was going to have to buy a whole new exhaust or weld a

new muffler in there. I told him that i thought this was hilarious and I have

owned numerous other brands before and never had one with a 4 inch split in

the back at 70,000 miles. This was over an 800.00 puchase back in 99. I

took the truck to a local muffler shop the next day, I barely made it into his

shop as the sound and squeeling became so unbearable. All the guys in the

shop where looking at me as I pulled in as such a nice looking truck sounded

so badly. They told me I had a few options. to buy a new muffler and spend

over 150.00 or they would weld it up for me for free and it should be just

fine. Well. I was 3/4 of the way home and pulling into my driveway when all

of a sudden I heard a loud BOOOOOM. I was so pissed off. I turned around

and headed right back for the shop. They jacked it up and sure enough to my

suprise, The TRD muffler BLEW UP inside. Like the balast or the metal part ,

that tube that goes through broke loose. The shop could not believe it. they

junked the piece of crap and threw on a Flowmaster 40 series. Even though i

was out money All that was forgoton after they fired it up with the new

muffler. Now it Has the same deep tone but just much louder and with a snap

to it. kinda sounds like a prof race car. After this experience I am really

starting to question TRDs quality of there products especially the

supercharger. Although its been great Im wondering what day im going to get

in it now and its just giong to blow up!!!!!. I really feel part of the reason the

TRD muffler blew up was It became aluminized from running to lean. There

has been articles on here about how without a better fuel delivery kit the

Supercharged 3.4 runs lean and its a great way to aluminize the exhaust.

Thanks alot TRD for selling a half finished product and a 850.00 exhaust

system that grenaded!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about you problems.

You're not the first I've heard about TRD's quality. I was talking with the owner of a local sport compact shop. He stopped selling TRD products becuase the quality of their products were going downhill. Seems like quantity is more important than quality. Unless, you got lots of $$$ to redirect their time.

don't you find it odd how toyota makes super reliable cars
but crappy aftermarket parts???

I've been driving toyota from the beginning
I drive a 02 rav4, 97 4runner and a 91 celica
never had any problem what so ever, well I had to change couple parts for the celica, but it's old...=P

and personally out of all the OEM aftermarkets (nismo, mazdaspeed, STI.....)
TRD gotta be the worst

which hurts me to know that=(

I never heard of anyone buying anything from Mazdaspeed... Mazdaspeed makes cars, but they rarely release stand alone products... My friends all have RX-7s and Miatas, however none of their stuff belongs to Mazdaspeed...

A good example would be the new turbo Miata... It isn't an options list, but rather a stand alone car model... Same with the twin turbo RX-8, but that thing can barely make it to the gas station and back being overheated and all...

Until I came here I never really knew TRD makes such bad crap... I know they've always been overpriced, but I thought they would at least fit and bond with the car a lot better than it shows...

TRD never makes anything, they just rebadge it... I think they just take a whole mess of parts and test to see which one brings out the best results... Then they mark the price up and sell it as an option...

I'm only guessing here, but usually TRD is just rebadged stuff...

holy crap. No wonder my supercharger hasnt blown up yet, your saying TRD

dousnt make it. HAHA. I was atleast going to give them the benefit of the

dought being the charger has held up. thats funny. There PRODUCTS SUCK.

No wonder There staff is so ignorant about issues with there products.

becouse there used to people probably calling them day in and day out

complaining. The dont have time to better there products and sit down and

come up with solutions/ such as a real ping fix for the supercharger. And no,

Not a piece of crap 7th injector that costs as much as the stupid

supercharger to begin with, thats not what i consider a fix. oh thats helping

us out a lot. Im sure They just answer the phone all day apologizing to

people and making excuses probably refering everyone to gadget to get the

problem resolved as they dont have the time or experience to fix it, just my 2 Cents.

Usually the TRD exhausts are made by Borla.

Not any more. Word is Bassani now makes them. I distribute Borla exhausts and they said TRD is no longer built by them. That being said, Borla exhausts are becoming a factory option on Toyotas (starting back east first). Toyota is also offering 18" BBS Alloy wheels, tinted windows and 10.4" DVD screens

I spoke with a TRD rep one time and my understanding is, they don't make any of the products they sell. They're nothing more than a marketing department for Toyota and its race division. Guess who makes all those different Sears Craftsman tools. Its sure not Sears...
