Default CAt back exhaust TRD

Is the cat back system from toyota worth it, any difference in power or gas mileage?

I recently purchased the TRD dual exhaust (one muffler/two tail pipes) from SteveG over at Carson Toyota. I know I could have spent much less on another brand of exhaust mod, but am extremely happy with my TRD duals. As far as you asking if it's worth it, that really depends on what you are looking for. Researching exhaust before my purchase here on TS made me pick the TRD duals to meet my needs.

I did not want a "true" dual exhaust system as many sources told me the four valve heads on the Toyota V8 will lose too much low end performance.

I did not want the exhaust to be too loud. The Flowmaster 40's some of my friends have are too loud. I like the way they sound, but just too loud for "me".

I wanted something that was made specifically for my Tundra so installation would be easy.

FYI, I have a '04 Tundra Access Cab, V8, Limited, TRD Sport package. The TRD duals are my only mod. I think the TRD duals make the V8 sound like it should have from the factory. I have not noticed any performance and/or gas mileage gains or loses. I hope some of this info will help.

Default I can barely hear my TRD Exhaust...

...but that's because I have TRD headers

Actually, if I hit the throttle softly (hard to do), I can hear the exhaust and it sounds very mellow and rich. If you want to hear what the TRD dual exhaust sounds/looks like, I linked a video in my signature. Click on the "E" next to "TRD" and you'll have a better understanding why my username is "atrdnut"

I don't think any exhaust can be TOO loud (IMO)... if I could, I'd run open headers but since I don't want to scare off the neighbors, I'll settle with my current exhaust setup.

I can't accurately state whether I had a boost in performance with just the exhaust, for I had my intake, headers, and exhaust all put in at one time. It was a tri-fecta (you betcha) of power right off the bat.

Milege has not yet been truly measured for I am very inconsistent with my driving habits. Also, I can't give you a reading of the milege increase from just an exhaust install. Sorry.

I'd recommend searching around this site to hear what members have said about this exhaust set-up, good and bad. You'll find a high percentage of those who have/had the TRD dual exhaust system are quite content with it. As am I.

In conclusion, is it worth it? I would definitely say so. I haven't regret spending ANY of the money I have put into my truck... even the $10k down-payment

I am very happy with mine and the quality seems superb. I especially like the TRD tips peeking out from below the rear quarter panels. The sound is mellow and not too loud, but certainly noticable. My wife noticed it right away and she is usually oblivious to anything automotive, except her squeaky breaks which I cannot even hear.

I think the others have covered most of what there is about the TRD ehxuast. It is really high quality and I like the flanges that bolt togather rather than clamp one pipe over the other.

It has a nice mellow, deep sporty tone. It isn't the loudest exhaust out there though. That might be good or bad depending. It is nice because it doesn't annoy you on the freeway and you can hear it in town. I do wish at times it were a little louder though. Borla and Bassani would be the next steps in volume.

Like others I didn't notice any gain or loss in either power or mileage. I bought them for sound so I'm happy.

I like my TRD Duals. The main reason i got them was the sound. I also liked the "TRD" Logos on the tips. I don't believe it makes a noticable difference in gas mileage. I still only get about 300-350 miles per tank. The sound is just right. Not too Loud, but a presence is known. Whats weird is that it seems when it gets cold outside, they seem to be alot louder. They have more "pop" and really sing under throttle. Maybe cause the metal is cold or somthing, i dunno. But i don't regret my TRD Duals purchase. Besides, i got them used for $360 shipped. Polished em' up and they look better than new. check out my photos.
Also, if I want somthing louder, i can always replace the muffler with somthing else like flowmaster, magnaflow, dynomax etc.

I agree. The tips are the best out there IMO.

Mine also gets louder when it is colder. But so does the Bassani exhaust on my brothers Tundra, so it isn't a TRD specific issue.
