    Unhappy Tundra V8 supercharger ping

I have had the supercharger installed now for well over 2 years, I got the updated model, but still I have pining at certain rpms. Called TRD they said they would refund me for the SC, but I really like the power gains. I also have a TRD headers, and TRD exhaust system, and have tried several cooler plugs all gapped correctly!

95% of the time the truck performs great! although the whine from the SC is a bit loud sometimes!

My question, does anyone know any easy solution? Besides going and spending big bucks with an aftermarket tuner, injectors etc??

    Help!

You can either start using octane booster like klotz or cut your tank with some 101 octane but Itll end up spending more money. An aftermarket piggyback should set your parameter and tune your truck to the right air fuel ratio needed. plus youll get more power tuned (throught the powerband) out of your blower.

I also have a Unichip plug and play unit brand new for a 99-02 s/c tundra if youre interested, in SoCal. Pm me

An aftermarket piggyback? Do you know who makes this?

Unichip. Do a search on "Unichip" and you will have enough reading to keep you busy for days.

    do you have a V8 or a V6?

your ping is not really ping - its detonation (spell?).
if you look up detonation online you will see some Nasty results from pre-ignition or detonation -burnt/melted pistons, thrown rods, snaped rod bolts, ect.

your engine (or i should say your TRD piggyback) is trying to bring back the timing far enough to stop the detonation which is sensed by the knock sensors, but the blower causes the paramiters of retard on the timing to be maxed and that is why it cant real back the timing far enough....
enter the intercooler , intercooling the charge would prevent any preignition and solve our problem with detonation.........

    - but wait.....THE F_C_ing idiots at TRD designed the blower without an intercooler and to be almost impossible to mate to any conventional intercooler.

So if you order a Unichip it will retard your timing up top of the rpm range to allow for usable power without detonation BUT you will lose the potential power you had at high rpm because of the retarded timing the Unichip will employ. On the good side the Unichip will advance the living hell out of your timing down low and midrange to gain probably more power in those areas then you currently are getting now.

sucks doesnt it....we've been here, so.......

my soulution to this problem is , Water/Methonal injection.
look up auqamist systems and read the info on their site.
i ordered my 2D system and am waiting for it to arrive.

So this problem is fairly common with the TRD S/C?

No wonder they stopped selling it... glad I haven't spent the $ to get one...
