Default Unichip installation trouble

I tried installing the chip today, all went well until it came to trying to get the harness to fit ontop of the ecu and then back into its original spot, there is no room whatsoever. We tried everything. Just trying to get those 2 to fit took us 2 hours and we still couldn't do it (me and my friend worked on it). It is IMPOSSIBLE to get it in there. I don't know how you guys did it. I am going to try again tomorrow, but right now I do have the chip hooked up, everything is just laying on the floor though. I wish I had done some kind of test prior to putting the chip in so I can compare results with what its like after with my vehicle. But all I can say is, when the car goes, it REALLY goes. I just need to figure out how to put the ecu and the harness back into its spot. Is the harness really supposed to sit on top of the ecu and still be able to fit in its orginal place?? Can someone post a pic of thier setup? Any help given would be much appreciated!

I didn't follow the directions and improvised my own technique. First, I didn't like mounting the chip behind the air duct, so I mounted it to the front of the plastic panel that covers the ECU and air duct, and I fished the Unichip connector through the hole at the top. I also trimmed the back edge of the glove box to clear the Unichip when the glove box is closed. This way I can open the glove box and show off my Unichip to my friends.

As far as the harness goes, you are right -- there is a lot of unnecessary cable you need to tuck away somewhere. I tucked it behind some of the existing OEM harness. You can see this in some of the pictures -- part of the PNP harness (I believe three of the cable bundles) goes to the right behind the OEM harness, and the remaining two cable bundles are tucked in on the left. Check out the links to my photo gallery.

I ran all of my excess wire harness to the left, and put the chip behind the duct. It worked fine for me.

Thanks guys for the replies. We tried again tonite and finally was able to put the PnP harness ontop of the ecu and screwed it into place. Just have to find a way to stuff the excess wires now. Did you guys run the switches into the glove box for easy access or its all with the rest of the wires?

My switch leads are just rolled up in the glove box for now. My original plan was to replace the blank switch filler plug on my center console with a real switch. However, when I removed the center console to see what is behind there, I discovered this is easier said than done. However, I think I can use the PC sub-assembly from the Access Cab and adapt it to my Double Cab, but I haven't yet tried to locate the assembly. On the Access Cab this location has the cargo light switch, which would be perfect for the fuel map because it consists of a SPST switch plus an LED. I would replace the silk screening with "Fuel Map A/B". If that doesn't work out, I'll just mount them in my glove box.

Note: The Hazzard Warning light is located in the same position on the DC and AC, and is part of the same sub-assembly. I am hoping that it will mount right up to the DC center console main assembly PC board.

i stuck everything in the glove, switches, light, chip...that way i can get to it easy. i suppose i'll make it more elegant later, but it works for now.
