Yes.. it has been a LONG and patient road.. but I FINALLY found a good Unichip tuner in the deep south! I am going to Hesco in B'Ham Alabama! http://www.hescosc.com/
I spoke to Lee (Owner) and I spoke to Jack and Tony several times.. and I have an appointment @ 10:00am CST on Monday Jan, 17th 2005 to have the Tundra FINALLY tuned! What I have worked out is to put the pre-programmed map on the "a" setting, and the new, custom tune on the "b" setting. This way, incase ther is SOMETHING that happens after I leave, then I know I can run the "stock" map. I will have the Supra TT Fuel pump, OD Crank pulley and the True-flow intake all mapped to MY Tundra! 8.5psi and fuel pressure to spare! According to Jeff, I have the place for 4 hrs.. and we will "get it right". I will have Dyno maps of before and after and A/F readings as well! I will post all my findings as usual.
Oh boy, I am a happy camper!
So, here goes... "Cover me boys, I'm going in!"

Ok.. spend a SOLID day at the Unichip place in B'Ham Alabama. Met the crew and made a few friends. It... was interesting. Ok.. I know you want numbas...
so here they are.
Base line run:
This is all with a 29% Drive Train loss factor..
Unichip as I got it from Jack, no changes..
Crank HP 352.5 hp @ 5100 rpm
Rear Wheel HP = 273.3 @ 5100 rpm
Now.. here is where it got interesting, I had several runs.. about 6 to be exact.. and we went from top to bottom thru the map. I know EXACTLY what was done and what the map looks like and how it all works now.. and let me tell you.. cool stuff. Anyway.. I was AMAZED that my truck ran BETTER on the LESS agressive map than it did on the agressive map... yep.. it did. We had a "listner" and several scopes hooked up and believe it or not, there was ping, that was not heard... but only on a scope! SO.. when I REDUCED the timing, it had BETTER numbers! So, based on that... we went in a completely different direction. With out going into tooo much detail, I REMOVED 3 deg of timing at the upper end and added timing in the lower to mid section and reduced the fuel curve, leaning it out in the center and added a bit more in the top end and WOW!
Here are the numbers from the last, final run...
Custom tune run:
Crank HP = 403.3 hp @ 5300 rpm
Rear Wheel = 286.6 hp @ 5300 rpm
I will scan and post the runs... Not tooo shabby. The TQ curve is MUCH flatter... I mean FLAT... and the HP curve is a nice, smooth slope to the top. NO PING and better MPG to boot. It was 152.5 miles from my driveway to theirs.. and USUALLY I got that to ˝ a tank.. and.. over all I am getting on avg. 14.2 mpg BEFORE the tune. I am getting (based on a full tank leaving and filling up when I got back) 15.3 mpg now. That was @ cruise @ 75mpg 80% of the time. NO CEL's and smooth sailing. So, as you can see, I LOWERED the peak TQ readings and flattened the A/F and TQ lines...
There is a BIT more I can wring out of it BUT, I was cautious on the side of durability. Lee was there the entire time and explained EVERYTHING in detail to me. He took his time and was VERY nice. If your in this neck of the woods and need a tune, I HIGHLY recommend Hesco! A TOP NOTCH place. Jeff called and spoke to Tony and Jack while I was there and spoke about the tune and the details. I do not know the exact conversation, but it worked.. whatever they spoke about.
PM me if you need more detailed info!

holy cowpokes, gives a whole new meaning to pulling like a raped ape. How does it pull now btw, just crazy fast? Its all in the tuning, I cant believe those numbers, thats friggin awesome. Time for some good quality track time...
Well... here is my observations on the 2nd day. It SCREAMS in the mid section.. I mean.. WOW! in the 65 to 85 mph range.. I am really lethal. On ramps, passing and even cruise... it is snappier and crisp. It get on with the program. I had to reset the ECU, so I am guessing that initial MPG readins will be on the low side due to the reset and my fat right foot as well. No CEL's and smooth.. I mean SMOOTH power. Especially in the 2500 to 3500 rpm range... which is where I wanted it tuned. WOT is for the BIRDS.. I drive in the meat of the RPM band, not WOT. Cruise @ 80mph on my Tundra is exactly 2525 rpm as proven on the dyno. So, when I get ready to pass, it comes out of lockup and jumps to 3000 rpm.. and it really responds. Hesco has a loading dyno, so we tuned at low mid and high loads as well. It was WELL worth the trip, time and $$$.

Can YOU say HEMI KILLER! I think my 05 with the VVti goes good, that thing must REALLY haul a$$.
I have the before and final dyno runs.. I will scan and post VERY soon.. I will notify when I get them out there!

Being that B'ham is not that far from Atl, what did he charge to do the retune? Also, since it seems Toyota will not have a charger for the 04, how much do you think it would help me (see my mods list) to have it done?

It was $300.00 skins for the tune and dyno runs. I was there from 11:00am CST to 5:00pm CST.
I believe the premise of "Max Power" is not a realistic one, as it is rarely achieved on the road. In my conversations with Lee and Jeff, I came to the conclusion that the main tune area is in the 2500 to 3500 RPM range. AND.. in addition to the range we set, the BOOST level is RARELY above ZERO when in CRUISE. We went and did some "real world" driving and got on the highway and set the cruise @ 75 and watched the boost gauge and WITH the Unichip laptop took readings and measured against the boost and found, a LOT of timing could be safely added. Then, when the boost did come on, like up a hill or something, then the timing was removed and the power still was there. ALSO, the FUEL curve.. this is the amazing part. We were able to remove 33% fuel FROM the map and STILL made MORE power in the crusie range of 70-85 mph BELOW boost of zero. See how it all plays together. I was flabberghasted at the "real world" tune. The dyno mimmicked the road test very closely. Now, don't get me wrong.. I want a fire breather when I "mash" the gas... and I have that. The "under the curve" map was the main point and all the MAIN tuning was done there. We did find the map that Jack and Tony produced was pert'near dead on for the WOT area. We were able to eek out a little bit, but that was mainly due to the Supra TT Fuel pump and the OD crank pully I have. That Supra TT fuel pump is a MAJOR factor in the map I have as I can FLOW the needed fuel I need all the way up to WOT. The stock fuel pump was not able to do that... very well... at all. Now, the WOT maps were "tweeked" and you will see from the dyno sheets that show the changes. Hesco was able to map A/F, RPM, HP, BOOST, TQ, TP and wheel slippage on the same graph.
Once I changed my premise for tuning, then it became clear that driveability AND power are VERY reasonable. I hope this lenghty post offers some "alternate" thoughts as to the tuning of the engine.

P.S. I am TRYING to upload the dyno scans as they are ready.. there seems to be a problem with the photo area. I am working on it!

So now that I'm going with the s/c on my 03 and I have the NA Unichip, I'm trying to decide if I should just run the TRD ECU or send my unichip back to jack for the s/c tune and wiring for the s/c, OR.... sell the Unichip because there are no tuners in this area and go with a Split Second unit later that I can tune myself (like MJJOFF is running).
What do you think the chances are of sending my chip to Jack and getting a tune similar to yours?
I don't plan on changing pulleys in the future and am mainly looking for smooth running, effecient engine that will last for many years with better power than the stock motor.
