Default 5w30 or 10w30?

Are most of you guys sticking with the factory's recommendation of using 5w30 oil or are you using 10w30??
thanks in advance,
Motoretro

Im using mobile 1 10W30 but im in hawaii so not much worrying about frozen oil around here. Beieve it or not, i actually think my engine runs better after switching to the synthetic from the 15W40 that the dealer had in there. Might just be imagining things though.

Less resistance with the lighter oil.

A number of years ago there was a Mobil 1 lube engineer named George from Ohio that was posting on here. Don't know if he still does(?)
One of the tidbits George offered up was that Mobil 1 0W-30, 5W-30 and 10W-30 were essentially all the same oil with different labels. He went on to mention that "Mobil 1 is a 30W oil which flows like a 0W, 5W, 10W at cold temps as synthetic base stocks do not thicken like mineral base oils do".
So even Mobil 1 15W-50 (not for the Tundra but for some other engines) for instance may in fact be the same as 0W-50. You around to comment George?
Cheers, Dave

I think what George was trying to say was that there was little difference (if any) in the basic additive packages in the various weights of Mobil1. But the viscosity of the base oil and the amount of VI additive will still change between the various weights.

Yeah, I had forgotton about George. Very knowledgeable about oil issues. It would be very nice if he were still posting on this board.

You are referring to member georgeseq, he is a lubrication engineer from avlube. He is very knowledgeable and helped out on my air filter testing. George doesn't visit often any more.

I continue to use the 5w30 in my area. If I lived in an area where the summers were real warm I'd use the heavier oil during those months.
