Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Cure for the Borla drone ?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just installed the cat back Borla dual exhaust on my 05 Access cab. Mine did not 'bog' on accelleration and by the watch is .4 sec quicker on a 0-60 run. After reading the many posts on the Borla it seems that some Borla systems drone and others don't. Mine does. love the feel and the overall sound, but the drone is anoying. Does anyone have a 'fix' for the drone?
you could reinstall the factory resonator, it does not take away from the borla sound at idle but I believe that others have done this with a varieing degree of success.

Give it a little time. I put a Borla system on my stepside last year and like you I had "the drone" at 2000-2200 rpm. It was annoying at first, but I don't even notice it at all now.
Dyna-mat the interior. Will cut down slightly. But this is what you wanted with a louder exhaust, right?
Some do tend to quiet down after some miles on them also. And some you just get used to!

Have an "H-Pipe" installed about 18" upstream from the muffler. "X-Pipes" only amplify exsisting issues
It will ease the droan and add a much needed clarity to your exit tone.
Somebody found a restrictor plate which could be installed in the exhaust system and eliminated the drone. I would not be wanting my exhaust much more restrictive though, as the hole did look pretty small.
