Default Engine oil cooler and trans oil cooler installed

I just finished installing a Long transmission oil cooler in my truck. While I was prepping for the install, I decided to install a Hayden engin oil cooler too. I bought the engine oil cooler 3 (three) times. The first time it was the wrong one (my fault, it was for a Chevy V8). The second time someone had scavenged the box for parts so a BUNCH of parts were missing. The 3rd time not only were all the parts there, there was a bonus remote filter mount.
Being the self proclaimed king of overkill, I decided to use the remote mount to install an additional filter in line with the cooler. I think it turned out pretty good. Pics are in my gallery.
Next project is getting the in line tranny filter installed and installing the trans oil temp gauge. It never ends...

Wha't wrong with the OEM oil cooler located just above the oil filter?

You don't want engine oil too cool. Engine oil should be about 180-200°. ATF should be about 150-160°.

The engine oil bypass gig that I installed has a built in T-stat. Oil doesn't start flowing until after it reaches X degrees.
Not sure about the stock oil filter. Honestly, I didn't even know that there was one. I saw the lines while installing the new setup and though it couldn't be an oil cooler because of where it was mounted. Not a whole lot of airflow there.

Stock oil cooler is an oil-to-water cooler.

Water cooled is more efficient than air cooled. I think stock unit should be sufficient since it's not much smaller than the one on Ford's Triton (6.8L/5.4L)

Thanks.

Nope, no change in oil pressure that I could tell. I did check the lines to see if the t-stat was working and it appears as though oil does not start flowing through the cooler until the oil is god and hot. I am not thrilled with the Haynes oil cooler, and may some day put a Long cooler in (the style like the tranny cooler). It is made much better.

I am also thinking about adding an oil cooler after warranty period since mine does not have one.

I like your mod except I don't want a secondary oil filter.

Is there a sandwich-type oil filter adapter out there with thermostat?

Yep, the Hayden (I said Haynes before but I meant Hayden ) kit comes with the t-stat sandwich adapter, hose, cooler, etc. You can get them at Pep Boys.

Does oil drain back to engine block or oil filter overnight with this setup?

Are you experiencing any morning valve tapping?

I am not sure about draining back to the engine block. As far as valve tapping, I haven't noticed anything. When it is "cold" (in our area it rarely drops below 30deg at night) I do get some noise in the morning. But I had this noise before installing the oil cooler, so I assume it is the piston slap that everyone else has.

Here's a question for KLS:

For engines like 2TR-FE equipped with piston oil jet and no engine oil cooler. If I added an oil cooler which will cool down pistons.

Will that increase the clearance between piston (ring) and cylinder wall which leads to more blow-by (assuming the cooler is very big)?
