Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "How to check the tranny fluid on the new 05 Tacoma?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I went out this weekend to check out the new Tacoma and could not find any kind of dipstick for the transmission. No one at the dealer including a representative from toyota could tell me where or if the truck had one. Am i to believe there is no way to check the transmission fluid on this truck? Also how many people have hit their head on the handgrab in the backseat of the double cab, damn that hurt! thanks
The 5-Speed Auto it totally sealed, it does not have a dip stick and there isn't "supposed" to be any reason to check the tranny fluid. this same design has been used in the Lexus for the past few years, or so i'm told.
Like the '04 and newer 4Runner, and the '05 Tundra the ATF level gauge (dip-stick) has been discontinued, and the ATF inspection method and the oil level inspection method have been changed. This mechanism consists of a refill plug, overflow plug, ATF temperature sensor No.2, and A/T OIL TEMP temperature warning light. The complete procedure to check the level and fill is outlined in the repair manual.

It's easy to check...if you don't have a red puddle on your garage floor or driveway, you're OK.
