Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "busted my rear end at 93000", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
today i busted my carrier and ring gear in the rear end. I guess my heavy foot and 33in tires caused it. The shop said i was looking at 1100.00 in parts and 250 in labor. I was going to do it myself but i thought 250 was a good deal on the labor. Does 1100 sound right for a new hogs head?
I'll sell you one for a whole lot less...you need to buy the ring gear from Randy's Ring & Pinion

Scroll down to the differential section and see what model and year the complete V-6 third is for. If it's for a 95.5 and up taco, then that's what you need and you can install it your self. Make sure it has the carrier bearings and is has been shimmed to spec. Hopefully, it's still availabble.
If not, there's a couple of other boards that I saw had taco rear thirds. What gear ratio are you looking for?
The taco rears 95.5 and up(non-TRD) has the same front and rear diff as the tundra. The main thing you want to look at is the gear ratio. So, yes it will fit.
i thought about it but my open diff has served me well for 5 years now, i just cant justify needing one. Allthough it is the perfect time to install one
