Well, I have a story to tell....

About 5 years ago, my Dad bought a new truck (Toyota Tundra) so he asked me if I wanted his 92 Subaru with 65,000 miles on her. I said "Sure" so flew home to Maine to get it and drove it back here to Colorado. It burned 2 quarts of oil along the way! (He always had the dealer do the oil changes but I don't know what Subaru uses but it wasn't synthetic.)

Anyway, I switched the oil from dino to synthetic (Mobile One Multi Vehicle formula) and, after a couple changes, the oil is MUCH cleaner, I get better mileage, and he doesn't burn ANY oil.

(And never use Fram oil filters....use Purolator or OEM ONLY!)

Good luck!

Purolator PureOne specifically IMOP. NAPA Gold's are really good too.

The oils "for high mileage engines" are slightly heavier viscosity within the SAE viacosity grade and may have some esters for seal conditioning. There is no need to pay the high price these oils ask. Use your choice of 10W-30 in mild climates or 5W-30 in cold winter climates.

Try an Auto-Rx cleaning of the engine internals to remove carbon from the piston ring grooves to prevent excess oil burning. If you get many, many more miles and notice a lower oil pressure due to worn bearings, move to a 15W-40 oil.

Also use Auto-Rx to clean your automatic transmission and power steering before your renew the fluids in those. I've used it in three engines and one transmission with very good results.
