Default spin on trans filter?

I know this quesion has been asked before, and I have searched the archives for info, but can't find an answer. Does anyone know if there is a spin on trans filter that will work on a Hayden remote filter mount? The Hayden mount is typically used for an engine oil filter relocation and accomodates a Fram PH8A (pic attached). Is there a trans filter that will fit this setup? Would an oil filter be good enough?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Several of the kits come with oil type filters (if you look on summit racing). If I was going with an oil type filter, I would probably go with one of the synthetic media ones (isn't Purolator Pure One synthetic, and the Baldwin B2-HPG).

Thanks for the response. I was looking at the Hayden setup because I can get the remote mount for about $40. It would only cost me about $5 for hardware (most of it I already have) and then cost of filter. It seems like all of the kits are around $100 by the time you pay shipping, etc. Just trying to get more "bang for my buck".
I am not sure about the Purolator Pure 1 filter. That is the one I use as an oil filter, and I am certain it will work on the Hayden setup, so it would be great if that setup would work!

Thanks again,

Ken

Stop into any good auto parts store where you can look at their big oil filter catalog from one of the major filter makers...WIX, Baldwin, etc. They list filters by fluid type as well as thread and gasket size. You'll see some listed for lube only, lube & transmission, transmission only, hydraulic only, etc. Buy one listed for transmission that fits your mount.

I checked out Summitracing and was surprised that the filter kits are so inexpensive ($30-$35). Seems like that is the way to go.
I checked out the Perma-Cool kit here
http://www.summitracing.com/mygarage...part=PRM-10678
I checked Perma-Cools site and was able to find that the filter they use is the 81008. This filter is a 3/4"x16 thread type. I checked several filter manufacturers sites (WIX, Baldwin, even Fram) for cross references but cannot find any. Does anyone know what tranny spin on filter is a 3/4"x16? Can a Purolator Pure One motor oil filter be used?
Sorry for all the questions guys. The more I dig into this the more questions I have.
Thanks for all f the help.

Ken

If you do get one, consider getting/adding a filtermag (as I posted in other threads) This will snap on to the outside of the filter giving you the added benefit (kinda like the inline ones). Get one of the filter cutters and you can see what kinda junk you picked up everytime you change it.

Sounds like a great idea. I did a search on "filtermag" and couldn't find the post you were referring to. Do you have a link to a page where I can see one or somewhere I can purchase one?

Thanks!

I put in filtermag in the search and got this http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...earchid=386703 I bought mine from www.filtermag.com as it was cheapest but it's also available from performance products. The filter cutter is not listed on their site but was only about $15 if I recall, just ask them. Do a serch on some of my posts I think I posted pics on one of the oil filter threads.

Edit: here ya go pics http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...1&postcount=74 and here's the thread it's from Magnetic Drain Plug

I should have pointed out that I actually used a Racor spin on transmission filter, which did cost almost 100. Everyone seemed to think it was worth it.

If you want a filtermag, check ebay. Sometimes there is a dealer on there that has a good deal.

OK, so here is what I settled on:
I ordered a Perma-Cool transmission filter kit from Summitracing here:
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...D10678&FROM=MG
I am not sure how good their filter is, and have searched some web sites for a spin on tranny filter without much luck. I emailed a few companies and found that the WIX 51622 will work. Racor replied and said they they "not have a transmission filter that will fit your application". I am still waiting for a reply from Purolator.

If I check that Wix number on the baldwin site (www.baldwinfilter.com), it finds a match as B252.

Cool, good info. So there are a few options. I just got an email back from Purolator and they said they do not have a spin on trans filter with 3/4"x16 thread.
So it looks like the WIX 51622, Baldwin B252, Perma Cool 81008 (5") or 81043 (4 1/4").
I did a cross ref on Fram for the WIX and came up with a HP1 or PH7650.

Be wary of cross references. In may cases they'll fit but not do the exact job.

I agree, that is good advice. I did get a reply from WIX stating "Our 51622 is designed for use in both motor oil and hydraulic/transmission fluid". So I would go with the WIX or the Baldwin. I am very leary of Fram because their cross ref seemed kind of sketchy.
