Default What Oil Filter Should I Use?

I am a new form member. I recently purchased a 05 Sequoia and I am interested in your opinions on what oil filter to use. I am of the opinion a good oil filter and synthetic oil is cheep insurance. Well maybe not so cheep but still worth it. From my research so far it looks like the Mobil 1 followed by K & N filters are some of the best. I guess the Toyota filters are ok to. I know nothing about the TDR toyota filters except they seem way to expensive. Your opinions would be appreciated.

If you are staying with normal drain intervals (which I assume you are to maintain the warranty), its tough to beat the OEM Toyota filters for both quality and price (about 1/2 the price of a Mobil1 filter). Buy them by the case and you can save some $$ as well.

My oil analysis results with 10,000 miles on a Toyota filter show good filtration.

K&N oil filters are nothing special for us. They are very well made, have average filtration, and handle higher flow from a modified engine with an oversized oil pump. That is no benefit for a stock oil pump.

I like Purolator Pure One and Mobil 1 oil filters for above average filtration. For average filtration, look to Purolator Premium, (U.S.) Bosch, WIX & NAPA/Gold, Hastings/Baldwin.

I use Toyota oil filters on my Toyotas. I have tried Napa Gold filter, but on my Celica, the filter would not retain the oil in the filter canister. It was like priming the oil system with almost every start up. My Napa dealer wouldn't make good on the filter, so I left it on his counter and haven't been back. Using the Toyota filter has resolved the problem on the Celica....which now has 208K miles.

On the Tundra, I use the stock filter, and Castrol Syntec 10W30, in lieu of the 5W30 that was originally spec'd. With 98K miles, the slightly more viscous oil is not going to be a problem.

For an air filter on the Tundra V-8, I went with K&N. Wouldn't have it any other way.
