Are you talking about the gold/brass colored bracket?

After looking for a little bit I will go check on my truck later (around 3pm) and see if mine it connected to anthing. I didn't notice anthing in the owner's manual that says its required, but if its in there to begin with it might just be for the cover.

Doesnt seem like it is there for anything. The cover attaches to one part of it and the other portion sticks out with nothing to it.

isn't that a hook for lifting out the engine? I didn't check under my hood just now, but I think I recall seeing one there.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's for lifting out the engine. You should see one on the other side also. I would leave them alone.

Smile bracket purpose

I have a Chilton's manual that shows a datalink connector (like the one under the dash) mounted to it. Apparently not all models have the datalink connector installed. My 01 does not.

Thanks for the info. No datalink connector on mine either.
