Default Flowmaster Vs Trd

Gentlemen, I'm sure this has been addressed, but to just sum it up and make it easy for me (I'm not real bright), I want dual exhaust from the muffler back. I understand this is not true dual. I want the compleat kit from muffler to tips. I want a nice V8 rumble but not annoying and loud. What is the price for TRD and Flowmaster? Are they both just as good? Easy bolt on install? The best place to purchase? Thanks for your time to read this.

I have the TRD duals. They have a great rumble, but just like like you're looking for, not to loud or annoying. I have never noticed any problems with talking over any sound in the cab, much less any problems while I'm crankin' a CD. The are super quality with one-year warranty over-the-counter and I think three-year if dealer installs. I paid about $640. from South Coast Toyota. He gave me an extra good deal since that is cheaper than on there website. Man were they easy to install. I didn't even have to lift the thing to do it. Sorry I can't say much about the Flowmasters since I don't know much about them. I have heard it is a quality product with maybe a louder sound and less expensive. Hope this helps.

I paid $630 for a custom job on my truck which replaced everything from the first set of cats on back including the factory Y pipe. The muffler is a Flowmaster 70 series and it is not annoyingly loud. In fact, it is just slightly louder inside the cab than stock-barely noticeable. Really nice rumble outside or with the windows down though but still not at all obnoxious.

Check out the pics on my photos.

I have some 18 second avi clips but they are a couple megs each so I can not post them here. PM me and I'd be happy to e-mail an audio clip to you.

I now have the TRDs and would'nt switch for anything. I had a loud Flowmaster and hated it, to each their own. The TRDs went on with out a bit of troubls. Best price is from Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota. $609.00 plus shipping.

They are great.....

Default exhaust

Ive had a TRD, Borla, and Bassani exhaust on my truck. I hated the Trd and wouldnt recommend it. It doesnt sound aggresive at all. I have the Bassani now and it sounds the best out of all three. I would look into the Bassani.

The 70 series isn't as loud as some Flowmasters I've heard but still gives a nice throaty roar when you really get into the throttle. For general driving though it isn't at all annoying.

Default 70 Series

I have to admit that the 70 Series is quiet..
And yeah it does sound "throaty".
BUT since I have mine on a Sequoia I like that kind of LOW Rumble. You Tundra people might want something louder??

I like my set-up 2 in 2 out with dual exit SS tips.
But if I could change anything it would be the Resonance I get when cruising at 55 to 65 mph
After 70mph.. It is silent..., like stock (THIS I LIKE!!)
Any one know how to reduce the drone??

Default Resonance

Sanchez,
from what I understand, it's the resonator you removed that is causing that. I ordered a series 70 today, $100 even, including shipping. Found a shop that will install it for $150. The only performance change I read from all the posters, is a possibility of reduced performance on low end. I'm going to have 2" pipes leaving the muffler. All of us are in it for the sound! I haven't had a V-8 in years, I want it to hear it.

MrPink (I like the name BTW-better than Mr Brown, hehehe)-Did you get the avi clip I e-mailed you? Hope it wasn't too large, I saw you have a cox.net e-mail so I figured you have a cable modem internet connection and could easily handle a 3.8MB download.

Mine gets slightly louder at 70. There is a bit of resonance there but I like it. It is just loud enough that you can hear it in the cab which I like. Anything over 70 or under 70 and I don't really notice the exhaust noise at all. I do like the sound of a V8 engine though.

Sanchez, you could try putting some high temp sound insulator on your muffler. That might help. You could also put more sound dampening material on your ride. You will always have a resonance, the trick is getting it to the point you dont notice it.

Default Flowmaster vs TRD

MrPink;
Haven't "heard" the TRD duals in action so can't comment. I have the Flowmaster "American Thunder" cat back dual kit. Comes with everything needed including s/s tips. Mandrel bent tubing is important. Bought it direct from Flowmaster about one year ago. I think it was about $350 + shipping. Went on real easy. Once I had it in place I took it to a local muffler shop and had them weld both pipes to the muffler. Sounds great but there's the V8 deep rumble at 2000 RPM. Quieter on both sides of 2000 RPM 'tho. I did a full insulation of the cab and that helped a lot. Do like the "thunder" of the V8. Problem is what'a I do with the almost new stock muffler and tail pipe I took off? Anybody want it?

Do you think that this would help??
It worth a try, where can I buy some of this stuff?
Does it just wrap directly around the muffler?
I know that it will be HIGH temp but is it also waterproof?
Flowmaster makes a Resonator that attaches in front of the muffler, but since I have a 2 in set-up it I would have to buy 2 (duh..) I am just not wanting to completely silence the Sequoia, just lower the resonance.

Did you get rid of the resonator?

MrPink; No I didn't get rid of the resonator. Would've but I live in Calif and the whakos running CARB (CA Air Resources Board) have imposed many ridiculous restrictions re smog checks which includes alterations of exhaust systems. I have "horror" stories to tell about costly attempts to get a smog check on a strictly stock '68 Porsche 912. CARB's manuals did not have the correct illustrations but even after sending them copies from Porsche's manuals the bureaucrats wouldn't admit they were wrong.
