Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "03 V6 that pings at minimal acceleration (Tacoma)", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just picked up an 03 SR5 TRD double cab with a supercharged V6. I have a slight ping at slow acceleration - like going with the flow of traffic - like I really do that often! I tried higher octane and also octane additive. Both help slightly, but only slightly. mediam to high acceleration don't ping at all.
Also, I get a check engine light that comes up as a lean condition. After clearing it the error comes back again after ~100 miles.
Is there a product to re-map the computer? Other that a piggy back unit?
Uunderdog Racing talk to gadget read around the site! Alot of guys that have the Supercharger and had the same problem u have got the URD fuel kit, it's like a tuneable 7th injector, better preformance than the 7th injector alone. Give em a try!
one of the last sugestions he has is to redirect a hose on the FPU so that it reads intake manifold pressure instead of ambiant air pressure. I am going to try it this weekend and will post the results. It won't help the lean at hight RPM, but should help the pinging at low RPM that I am experiencing.
replacement FMU from Cartech can be had for under $200.00 that will be my next step before 7th injector since it will be needed anyways.
