Default Tach reads 2100 rpms at 60mph,should read 1900 rpms?

Hi,my 2001 V-8 4x2 Tundra reads 2100 rpms at 60mph with the OD on ,and in top gear.Another v8 Tundra-same tires, wheels etc read 1900rpms.Is my transmission slipping?Or is it just that the tach or speedometer is just a bit off.Is the Tach reading too high,or speedometer too low.I doubt the speedometer is to low, they are usually too high.Any ideas, and should I bother to bring it in to the service dep(no faith in them). Thanks,Charlie -New Orleans-2001 Limited 4x2 V-8 TRD offroad pk. 1300 miles ,4 weeks old(bought a 2001 in 2002 because it was a good deal,it had 500 miles on it,but was sold as "new".)

It seems there are a few different gear ratio's for the Tundra.

It would be the rear diff that is different depending on whether its a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.

I'm interested myself in obtaining the Limited slip TRD rear end gearing.

Default 3.91,or 3.92 I think

Mike,I think all the 2WD V-8's are either 3.91 or 3.92(I can't remember which). The LSD from TRD would be nice, but I would guess it is the same gearing as stock. Thanks,Charlie

Charlie,
Your tach reads higher than mine, or the speedometer lower. There is a range of normal variation in any of the instruments, however.

A vehicle is "New" if it has never been titled regardless of the miles on it. It was probably used by the sales manager's 17 year old nephew when he came to town for a visit...

My tach also reads about 1900 at 60mph with 265's on it, I know it was higher when I had my 245 snow tires on it. Just curious what size tires do you have?

I was reading some of the other posts about the torque converter lock-up. I can see about a 200 rpm drop when mine locks between 40 and 50 mph. You may wish to read the posts on that topic and verify that yours is locking up properly, if not that may account for the higher RPM.
