Default trd exhaust

they advertise 3-4 rwhp, and this is a well made system, how can we expect to get anymore form other exhaust systems, as if trd don't know what they are doing. example; is the banks $525. worth 3-4hp, if there were more exhaust hp to be found, i think trd would have found it. now are we really paying for sound. this trd system has been on the market for years, i had one in 2000, same advertised hp. any comments.

I just purchased the Magnaflow Catback Exhaust System and they advertise a gain of 10HP. I was at Magnaflow when they tested this exhaust out on the Dyno so I know it did what they say. I am not sure why the TRD system is making less but I would assume its because of restrictions they put on the muffler being its from Toyota? Magnaflow is now making the TRD mufflers for them maybe I can ask my friend and see if they have certain restrictions built in to the ones they sell to TRD.

Also, just because TRD is a good company doesnt mean everything they put out is the best. No company is 100% right in everything they do. Look at the TRD shocks you can pay extra for on Tacomas, they are total $h!t. TRD is a part of Toyota so they are going to want to keep cost down because of the volume they put out. That is why the TRD Bilstein shocks are such crap because Bilstein was ordered to produce them at a lower standard. I assume this is probably part of the cause for the TRD exhausts to produce less.

Something else to consider if I would bet TRD/Toyota is more concerned with passing CA emissions than some other companies might so that could also be why they are setup a certain way.

Ofcourse I could be totally wrong

TRD is probably also concerned with the noise requirements. I'm sure other companys aren't. Quite frankly I wish TRD wasn't concerned with that because the TRD exhaust may have been a bit louder.

you must also be careful where your truck is making the gains. for the most part, you'll be getting hp gains in the upper rpm ranges, like 3500+. This doesn't do much for your acceleration. The best systems i've heard of are gibson exhaust with stock diameter piping. Gibson specializes in towing, rv and motorhome exhaust systems, so they actually give you more torque in lower rpm ranges (at 2200 persay, instead of 3500). You might not be able to hear it from a mile away, but all that noise gets annoying after a while anyway (i'd know).

True True True. But what you didnt mention is that the shocks you buy from TRD are different from the TRD /Bilstein that come from the port. When Toyota adds the TRD package to a Tacoma or Tundra they use a different shock than what you get if you buy it as a TRD part. Usually the ones from the port are yellow and blue, the ones from TRD are red and blue and far better in my opinion than the port installed shocks. So for production yes they use a lesser product than if you buy them after the sale.

Just one guys opinion......
