Default Ticky ticky ticky go the exaust manifolds

I was pulling out of my garage and heard the tick tick tick of the leaky manifold problem that seems to be common to Tundras. I also hear it when I accelerate hard as more of a hissing sound. Methinks I have a cracked exaust manifold.

Ya know. I just don't care. My lease is almost up, and I'm just going to get a new Tundra with a new warranty, and after the deal is done, I'll mention "by the way, you might want to check the exaust manifold before you put this baby on the lot for sale..."

Unhappy oh oh!!!

I just noticed that yesterday. The sound coming out of mine is like a rattle snake's rattle. After I hit the gas. I hear the exhaust then the rattle.

I read on here somewhere that it would go away after it would warm up. But mine doesn't. Is this a sign?

I feel my food coming back up on me.

What happened to "Toyota Quality"? This is just as bad as the good ole american lemons!

I have 14k+ on mine.

Default ????

could any damage occur from this leak??????

All do respect Hovisimo, but this is one too many problems for me. Maybe (i'm a bit naive) but when i bought a new vehicle i never thought these problems would arise. At least no so soon!

No point in expecting a trouble free vehicle, no matter what the brand. They ALL have problems, because they're so complex. Think of the number of parts in a new car, think of all the technology, computers, etc. It's a wonder they don't have more problems. Realistically, you want a vehicle that won't have problems in areas that leave you on the side of the road. So far, the Tundra doesn't have any of these, which I believe makes it a better product than the American counterparts.

Default well well....

No offense guys, again! But having to leave my truck for a day or two to fix things like this is not my idea of high quality as Toyo boasts.

don't get me wrong I love my truck and i can live with a shock here a bushing there, but a whole manifold c'mon.

i'm sure the other 3 are worst but that's what appealed to me about Toyo, quality and a heck of a good truck.

If it's all a big gamble then I should've just bought a used one with warranty!

After talking with some ex-Toyota mechanics here where I work, they state that Toyota has had a long history of cracking manifolds their 4 and 6cyl engines.

Guess I'm lucky here. I'm turning my Tundra in off its lease in a month. I don't care what the damn manifold does between now and then. It's not gonna explode or something, and they can fix it before they resell it.

Default a little help

hey guys, how exactly do i know if i have this problem. All I know is that there is a hissing sound. Some have described it as a volkswagen beetle engine sound. Mine doesn't sound that bad!

I'm just not sure if it's just a normal exhaust hissing or something else. I might be a little paranoid. Too much info maybe! LOL!

Thanks,
BT22

Angry Exhaust Manifolds

I know the feeling of losing your truck to stupid stuff that should not be happening. I had to drive a rental Chevy Metro for a total of eight days over a two-week period. I noticed the manifold noise around 22k, but I'm sure I had it for longer. This will not hurt your truck if you don't let it get real bad. I took mine in three times because of my dealership.
I advise a couple of things on this problem.
(1) Drive another Tundra-that's how I was 100% on my exh leak.
(2) INSIST the dealer check both sides-More than one truck has had problems with both sides. And my dealer fixed the wrong side and gave back to me-noise intact
(3) When you take truck in, Make the person helping you hear the noise-drive them around if you have to.-That way they have to acknowledge the problem.
(4) Check fix-After three days of new manifold, my truck started popping REALLY loud after about three to five minutes after I shut the truck off.-Took back to dealer and they replaced the NEW manifold with another NEW manifold. after that the truck is fine.

The bottom line in my opinion is this definitely should not be happening. This is a major pain in the *** fix. I lost more than a few hours of work and had to drive a 1.8 liter go-cart for awhile. GOOD LUCK ON YOU FIXES AND FEEL FREE TO DROP ME A LINE.
