Default Performance with K&N & TRD duals

I have 2000 4x4 V8 Tundra with K&N filtercharger and TRD duals. I have been concerned with the K&N not filtering air as good as I would like and have thought abought going back to the OEM filter. Does anyone run the TRD Duals with the OEM filter? If so did you use the K&N or TRD filter before? I am wondering what the performance effects would be with more restricted airflow.

Thanks in advance for any info,
Mitch

I had the same set up and the same concern. Felt I was letting to much dirt into my engine. I switched to the AMSOIL two stage air filter. Filters closer to OEM capabilities, but gives the airflow of a K&N. Hope this helps!

You are correct, Bo. And I hope you are happy with your filter... I too have TRD duals with the AMSOIL air filter (and TRD headers). Mitch, have you looked at how filthy the intake system is downstream of the K&N? Of course this will depend on how long it has been in there...

I have the K&N drop in air filter. It's been in there for over a year and about 20,000+ miles (I haven't cleaned it yet either). And I live about 1 mile down a gravel road. There was no dust or dirt residue between the top of the air filter element and the throttle body last time I checked. I specifically took a pure white cloth to the inside of the tube looking for all this dirt that the K&N supposidly lets through, and I couldn't find it. I do plan on doing an oil analysis at the next change just out of curiousity though. But at last change, my oil (Mobil 1 Synthetic with a Bosch oil filter) was still honey colored at 7000 miles. I also have the TRD duals and a modified airbox (larger 4" inlet tube). I am quite pleased with the performance of this combination, but like everyone else here it seems, I want more. If the price ever comes down on those TRD headers, I may have to put a set on. I think I'm going to open up the "Y" pipe first and see what that gains.

I have had this setup in about a year and I checked the intake tube a few week ago and it seemed clean. I checked the same way Arkie6 did wiping in front of the MAF and did not notice any dirt, but I am still concerned enough to consider going back to the paper filter. I was hoping someone would post that had a TRD and OEM air filter setup to comment on the performance of that setup.
Thanks for info,
Mitch
