How do you know if your Tundra has 240 or 245 horsepower?

I'm pretty sure the 2000 and 2001 had 245hp. I believe it changed in 2002 due to emission regulations.

Does anyone know what Toyota did to the 03-04 4.7 to decrease 5 horsepower?

They complied to California emissions standards for all vehicles instead of having 2 different models.

If you don't mind me asking, what did the California emissions standards do to recalibrate the engine to make less horsepower? For example: change the ECU? Exhaust?

I know there's more technical information, but the most recognizable change is the non-California Tundras have only two catalytic converters, whereas the California Tundras have three. I am not sure if this reflects on the horsepower, though.

If 3 cats is what changed the horsepower then I'm not sure what to make of my 04. It has 2 cats and a resonator. Would it be considered non-CA?

I'm not sure the addition of a catalytic converter has any affect, positive or negative, on the SAE HP rating.

Based on ricqik's information, your '04 Tundra should produce 240 bhp. It would be considered a non-CA Tundra in the sense that you do not have a third catalytic converter. Still, you're producing the same estimated HP as the California Tundras with the third cat.

That being said, it's not the catalytic converters that affected the horsepower difference.

I know my truck was bought in cali, its got 3 cats and it would be a bummer if it loosed 5hp from that but now im all bummed to know it runs 5 less just by being bought in cali... Well i guess i shouldnt becuase in reality its probbly only like 215 horses and like 270lbs torque anyway.
