Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tacoma: How is the 4.0 Litre for Gas mileage?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm trying to decide on a Tundra or the new Tacoma. I'd like to get some info on the mileage you guys re getting with the new V6 in the 4x4. I temped to go for the Tundra but if the mileage on the new Tacoma is close to the rating it should be 5 M/gal better than the Tundra. But then the V8 torque is hard to resist.
I have been getting about 18 - 19 MPG in town.....no high way driving yet.....only 2k on the truck. I traded an '01 Tundra for this Tacoma. On a good day the Tundra would get about 14 mpg in town.
DC LB TRD Sport 4X4 V6 Auto. At 5000 miles I average between 15.5 and 17mpg using 91 octane. I rarely get on it other than merging onto the highway so I'm guessing it won't get much better. The advertised 21 mpg highway doesn't look like a reality for me. Good thing the truck ROCKS!
Yikes I get about the same Are the fuel tanks the same size as the Tundra?
I guess I'm getting GREAT gas mileage considering my list of mods. I haven't installed the crank pulley in it yet which will reduce my mileage do to more power.

I don't think the tanks are the same size. The Tundra has a 26.4 gallon and I am pretty sure the Taco has somewhere around a 21 gallon, I may be wrong. You got any pics of your truck? I'd like to see it.
4x4 DC Trd sport 6 spd, 4200 miles, 89 oct gas. 15 mpg city, 18 mpg interstate @ 70-75 mph, and 20 mpg country highway @ 55-65 mph. Best tank so far was 20.5 mpg warm day avg 60 mph, worst was 12.8 mpg towing 1500 lbs and -20F temps.
WOW! That's exactly what I'm gettin' out of a full tank of 87 octane, with my '95 Tacoma V6 4x4?! I certainly had high hopes Toyota, would have changed things for the better, in 10 years of R&D... .
Still like the new look and the spacious cabin though... !
