Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Gibson Exhaust", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've been wondering the same thing. As far as I can tell, if you want a performance exhaust without a lot of noise and at a reasonable price, then go with the Gibson. I emailed Gibson and they told me that the single swept side exhaust was better than their dual sport exhaust because of some back pressure created by the dual. Anybody else know about Gibson?
Yeah, a sales rep from Gibson told me that the dual sport exhaust gives about 8 hp/16-18 lbs. of torque, so he said that the single exhaust was better. One other thing to consider is that the dual sport pipes come real close to the spare tire. I emailed Gibson one other time to ask about that, and was told that one of the pipes is only 1" away from the spare. I asked him if there was a heat shield that could be put on, but didn't get a reply. I assume there isn't. I don't know how much difference being so close to the spare would make, but living in the desert southwest, I would want to take any additional measures to keep the spare from drying out over time. The spares dry out fast enough, so putting a hot exhaust pipe near it would not help any. I have had spare tires on previous trucks that dried out and started to crack over a few years.
"SINGLE SIDE EXIT-
This kit is the ultimate power-producing performance exhaust for
towing, and pulling power.* Nice deep throaty sound at the tailpipe but
still quiet inside the cab. Follows O.E.routing and exits in stock
location with a large polished stainless tip. The part number that you
will need is # 18600 for aluminized or # 618600 for stainless steel.
This system will give your truck about 8 hp. and about 20 ft. pounds
of torque to the rear wheels."
I don't have this system... yet, but another thing I like about the Gibson system is that it produces its peak Hp improvement between 2,000 and 4,000 rpms. That is right where you need it, especially for towing.
I have a Gibson single side I am willing to sell if any one is intrested. I was not happy with the sound and got a Borla for mine. If anyone is intrested send me an E-mail.

Yeah, what was wrong with the Gibson sound? I have it and was thinking about the Borla Duels, but I like the sound of the Gibson and would only want something MORE throaty without losing any hp or torque. I might just stick w/ the Gibson so I'm not disappointed. Thanks.
I just put the Gibson dual sport exhaust on my 2003 Tundra and love it. It makes quite a bit more throaty sound than the single and the dual 3.5 in tips look great.
It has now been several months since I put the dual sport on and it did take some time for the computer to catch up to the additional flow rate. The truck feels like there is much more power now after 2 months than when it was first installed. I also had installed a K&N air filter at about the same time when the exhaust was installed.
re- gibson single exhaust 4.7 ; I installed mine about a year ago but dident notice major increase in "seat of the pants " power increase. Only after installing k+n filter did the system seem to really perform. As for sound, it emits more of a tone than a rumble. Also seems to be designed with resonance at typical crusing speed/rpm.
I have had a Gibson I took off my Tundra 2 years ago laying in my basement, I hated the 2000 rpm drone and it hurt the bottom end power. I replaced with a TRD dual and they were better sound (no drone) and they did not hurt the bottom end power as much an helped the top end.
