Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "90k Checklist", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Soon it will be getting time for my 90k service and i have read other threads from the past and assembled a list of what i think needs to be done but id like to hear from everyone else as to what they had done at 90k or what you'd reccomend..
So far i have:
Timing belts
Timing belt tensioners
Cam shaft seals
Thermostat
Water pump
Other things like hoses, are we talking radiator hoses or what?
Trans flush. I got the truck at 73k and i havent touched the tranny fluid, I would likely be doing it myself. is it best to completely flush it or just drain and fill? And i guess theres actually NO filter? That means i shouldnt have to drop the pan!
Speaking of tranny fluids you know im reading synthetics are good, and then OTOT its like everyone says dont go syn with that many miles. I dont feel i have any problems with the way my transmission shifts. So is it reccomended to just stick with the regular stuff.

2-year mainenance...
-Flush and renew engine coolant
-Flush and renew brake fluid.
Also drain and renew the differential gear oil. Folks, do the camshaft seals, tensioners, and water pump need replacement every timing belt or every other timing belt?
At 90k, I'd do an Auto-Rx cleaning of the engine, transmission, and power steering. I always prefer synthetic ATF in the transmission and power steering (unless a premium power steering fluid is used like Redline or Lubegard). There is no problem switching. PAO based ATF like Mobil 1 has a higher film strength then petroleum products, doesn't thin as much when very hot, doesn't oxidize as readily when very hot, and doesn't get as hot.
It all depends on how long you plan on keeping your truck. If you want it to last the longest with the lowest repair costs, keep the fluids fresh.

Folks, do the camshaft seals, tensioners, and water pump need replacement every timing belt or every other timing belt?
Its every other change for Toyota's with a 60K mile timing belt change interval. But for the Sequoia/Tundra its recommended to go ahead and do it at the 90K miles timing belt interval since you would be taking a chance waiting until the next change at 180K miles.
I use synthetic for all the oils and high quality brake fluid. Ditto KLS comments on the replacements. I also replace radiator, heater and vacuum hoses on the major service. Recently did my second 90K service ; turned 188K last week. Everything is still going round and round and up and down strrroooong....
I'm in the same boat as you, about to do all you list. In addition to the fluid flushes mentioned by others, I am doing a TB cleaning. I am adding a fuel filter change also(heard some people here having problems with doing this themselves, so I'll let the dealer do it).
Another question, should I replace the PCV valve?
/Mike

I believe the PCV valve is just a few dollar part, i guess theres no harm in replacing it but if its not giving you any problems, hey dont. If it aint broke dont fix it. Not like its hard to replace if or when it does go bad.

I have put together a comprehensive list for an upcoming 90k maintenance, but do have some questions. Is there anything on here not worth doing on this list? Anything I missed? I am big into preventative maintenance so I don't have to worry about a breakdown...but don't want overkill or wasteful replacement either. Here is my checklist list and related questions. My truck has never towed a thing and is rarely driven off paved roads.
Also indicated is what I plan on having the dealer do.
