Question

Had my left side done last week, The truck seems to have a lot more power. Is it because the the sensors were reading wrong and do any of you think my Gas mileage will go up? got 19+ at 5500 miles and 17 to 17.5 at 20,000 witha cracked Manifold.

Yeah mine difinetly has more power also, so we probably will get better mileage too. What is sad about it is weve been driving new trucks that have been performing like junk untill we had this fix, sorta like being cheated. Also mine has 21,000 on it now to so we have had about the same experience.

I had the ticking also, but only on a hot engine, and when the headers would cool, but the heads where still hot, it would be big time loud for about a minute or 2, until the pipes got hot again and sealed the leaks. To make a long story short, the dealer agreed, replace both manifolds, replace 2 galled o2 senser (not cross threaded) . All on the power train warrenty 46600 miles
Cost to me a big fat $O and 3 day with a loaner.
Cost to Toyota: $(975 for manifolds
$190 X 2 for o2 sensers.
$1000+ for labor and Misc.
Now all I here is the valve train, I think?

Good for you! You got lucky because all that stuff is only covered by Toyota for 3 yr. 36K. Check the warranty book in your owner manual packet. $975 will buy (5) manifolds. Don't know how they figured that one?

it'll buy 2 manifolds, thats why I bought the aftermarket ones. plus stock sucks.

I'm happy that your dealer agreed to do that, most would not have, especially not mine.

New ones cost $195 a piece. I have (2) of them.
$195 x 5 = $975

they quoted me 475 a piece for new manifolds when I was going through my hell. Maybe they mis-quoted me.

Dudeboy,
If you got them for $190, maybe they gave you the wrong price?
I saw the exhaust man. on the invoice that they will submit to Toyota to get there money, and the manofolds where $450 or $475 a piece.
Also they said it would fall under the 5year 50000 mile power train warrenty.
But I do have an extended toyo 6 year 100000 mile warrenty.

Guys, if you are installing headers to replace a cracked manifold, keep the cracked manifolds and any receipts you have. If the day comes when there is a recall or ???, there is a chance Toyota will pay you back. This happened to me with a water pump on a Ford Contour. Replaced it myself and I was later reimbursed by Ford.

The $195 a piece was a quote that I got from Carson Toyota. The P/N's are 17105-50151 and 17104-50151. Maybe try Dallas Toyota and see what they say. Here's a picture of the end of one of the boxes.

anyways, the stock ones are expensive.

I kept the receipt for them. If toyota EVER initiates a recall, which I doubt, I am dgoing to go the the service manager at my dealership and get him to personally refund the money, since he is the butt hole that blew me off when I had the problem in the first place.

How hard is it to take off the heat shields? Will it take long to do a visiual check?

It is not too hard to remove the heat shields, they are held on by some 10mm bolts. they take some wiggling to fish them off. After yo uremove the heat shiels, it will be mucheasier to see where the leaks are. yo ucan feel them easier and they sometimes leave black marks on the heat shields.

I just got off the phone with my dealer and they said they would fix the exhaust manifolds if I could show proof that another dealer had it fixed under the 5/60,000 powertrain warranty. They said they get paid well to fix stuff under warranty. Does anyone have an invoice or some type of proof of this? My truck has 56,000 and is getting closer to the 60,000 every day.

Josh

Hey guys...Is there anyone out there who had the manifolds replaced under the powertrain warranty? (No CA emissions)

I'm new here, but have lived with this problem for a while. Unfortunately, took delivery Jan. 2000 and the 3/36 is gone. Even though the truck has only 17,000 miles after 3.5 years, the manifolds are junk. If I have to fork the money out, i'll opt for the JBA headers and install myself, but if someone has proof of a dealership replacing after 3 years, i'd much rather spend $0 for OEM, than $100's for headers!

I can't believe I never found this site earlier!

Thanks...Jim
