Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Too many miles for a supercharger??", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've been playing around with the idea of putting a TRD supercharger on my 1995 T100 with the 3.4L V6. I realize someone out there will throw a flag and tell me the TRD S/C is not compatible with the 1995 T100 ECU. That's true, except that I'd also install a URD kit with the S/C which will take care of any tuning and fuel problems. So my main concern is do I have too many miles to safely put a S/C on my truck. I currently have 155,000 mostly highway miles. The truck uses about 1/2 a quart of oil every 5000 mile oil change, mobil-1 of course. Other than that, the engine runs flawless. Any opinions would be helpful, Thanks....

From what I have heard the only thing that really matters is how the engine is performing...I would do a compression check on the engine and if that clears out considering nothing else is wrong should be fine to install it as long as the URD kit is properly tuned and there is no lean out whatsoever. A guy at Tacoma territory installed his charger at 112K and has somewhere in the neighborhood of 160K now with no problems.
The problem though is that I dont know if the URD kit will be able to connect with a 95 ecu? I know Gadget suggests not putting the charger on the earlier year trucks. I also dont know of anyone who has put a charger on a 95. Search in tacomaterritory about this topic you will probably get a lot more info.

The good news is that URD sells a kit for the '95 T100. I did read about a couple of '95 T100 owners who have put a TRD S/C's on their trucks, even though it's not supposed to work with the '95 ECU's. That's pretty much where I got the idea, which is bad becuase the last thing I need to spend money on is a S/C. Although, I did drive by a gas station today that had premium gas at $2.60/gallon, so that might be the only thing that stops me from buying it.

Yeah gas is a bitch...but when regular is at 2.30 anyways haha you're still gonna break the bank no matter what

Excellent advise so far.....) If you'd got questions you can't get answers for on this board, I would ask Gadget.
Gadget has the most experience with the 3.4 V6 of anyone I know. He drew some of the early schematics on wiring diagrams for the ECU hookups, he was my go-to guy when I SC'd my '99 Tacoma a few years back, and he might be able to answer your questions about the higher mileage applications & potential transmission durability issues......
I'll never again add Forced Induction to a vehicle that didnt have it from the factory. I had bigger injectors on my '99 3.4V6 with TRD blower, ran an Apexi Super AFC, some Split Second equipment, and the truck was like a running laboratory. Constant CELs, constantly adjusting fuel mix to ensure it wasnt running lean, pinging, or whatever.......the truck was stupid fast but it didnt feel anywhere near the "turn key" factory feel I enjoy.
My new motto is to buy it fast enough from the factory, though I'll run a chip and exhaust. I have a VR6 Jetta 6 speed, plenty fast stock. No problem with my '01 V8 Sequoia, either.......
In all honesty, I'd take the $2000+ you'd spend on the TRD S/C and put it towards a nice, used Tundra. (I had a '98 T100 X-Cab V6 SR5 and loved it, just not quite enough motor for what I wanted)....
I dont know if you guys have heard but some rumors have leaked that Gadget has completed a prototype Turbo for the V6....and no it is not remote mounted....Might be worth to wait just a lil

Ben
I hear what you are saying here. I'm a veteran of a S/C'd 2001 Tacoma and 2002 4Runner. The trucks ran great but there were always little gremlins constantly popping up. I just hated having new vehicles with problems. In the case of my T100, it's not new so I don't care as much and I just tend to get anxious if I haven't modded anything in awhile. The wife's Sequoia is too new to have the aftermarket stuff I want, headers, PnP Unichip, ect. Part of me wanted to tinker with my T100 just to suppress my urge to buy the Jeep Rubicon I've been looking at. It's hard to get into another car payment since my T100 is paid for. I'll probably just save my money for now, unless I come across a smoking deal on a used TRD S/C.
