Unhappy Best way to fit a muffler tip that is too big ?

I just bought a Gibson stainless steel tip from ebay. I miscalculated the diameter of my 01 Sequoia muffler twice. This is the second tip that I bought, the first one is too small.
Now, the diameter of the tip is too big. Not way off, but enough to make the clamp not to work. I am not sure what to do, and need to figure it out really fast. My significant other would not be happy if she found out the tip doesnt work out (again).
I talked to a few friends, and came up with a few solutions. 1. Weld the tip to the muffler. 2. Weld a slightly larger pipe to the muffler, then I can clamp the tip to the muffler. 3. Somehow make the tip has smaller diameter - was told that muffler shop has special equipment to do this. What is best way to do this ? I kinda prefer no 2. Anyone know how much usually cost to weld a tip to the muffler ?

get a section of pipe bigger than the one on the muffler, but smaller than the one on the tip. Stick it over the muffler, and slide the tip over that (use the section of pipe as a "shim")

Or you can make relief cuts in the tip and get a slightly smaller clamp.
