Default Buying a '00 / Have ?'s

I'm considering buying a '00 Tundra 4x4 TRD Access Cab with 116,000 miles. The owners states he replaced / repaired the tranny recently due to what he was told was a systemic problem with '00 & '01 Tundras and Sequoias. He stated this was a $2,600 repair and Toyota recognized the recurring problem and redesigned the '02 as a permanent remedy.

The Toyota dealer evidently didn't give him enough information so he went to a reputable transmission shop in Memphis for more explanations.

I've had two Previas and a Camry and think I'd like this truck. It's 400 miles away so chances to pre-screen the truck are limited.

Can anyone tell me more about this situation? Are there any particular things to look for / be aware of with this model?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Don't forget the ADD front differential. Electronic control for engagement of front diff can be problematic - it either is or isn't from what I can tell (reading other owner posts/issues). Check for clean, fast engagement of FR Diff, release as well.
