sounds like an ADD actuation problem... it might be partialy engaged or even fully engaged, but the position sensor says that it isn't. first I would get under there and make sure the wire connections are clean and tight. also check for any cuts or breaks in the wires.

When you hit 4-hi, try to rock the truck back and forth by putting it into forward & reverse. Sometimes that helps to get it into gear. When it finally connects, you may hear a faint clunk that'll tell you it's locked into position. Usually I only have to do this when I'm parked on a hill and try to engage 4-lo or hi.
Waiter, how do you prepare your chickens?
Nothing special. We just tell them straight out that they're going to die.
