Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "True Duals", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I am thinking about getting true duals on my truck, and I am wondering what would I have to get, the process it takes during installation, and what the price range might be.
I already have one Flowmaster that is single in and out that has a Y-pipe (keep that in mind if you answer my question )

Basically true duals would eliminate the Y pipe as it is two straight pipes coming back from the headers...I would suggest a custom install with this then choose your muffler. Ask some exhuast shops for prices...they would give you the best appraisal.
This will definetly lower your low end torque though but will make your truck damn loud.

you could save a heck of alot of money by removing your muffler and just dumping the exhaust around the axle
i wouldnt pass inspection if I didnt have a muffler, I'm near Houston, TX and they are really cracking down with the emissions testing and inspections and all of that crap, if I could get away with it, i would do that, but theres no way id pass inspection

Is that legal in TX? It wouldnt be here in CA because your model year has a 3rd cat after the Y pipe. If it was 03 and up it would be legal because there is no 3rd cat.

you should research this first. if you want to run a muffler without running a muffler, get a dynomax bullet its twelve inches long and has almost no "muffler" to it.
yeah thats why i asked on here also...so if anyone from texas that knows this stuff, let me know!

What about running a manual or electric cutout? If you want loud, this would be the easiest method. You could run your 'open header' approach whenever, and when it's time to get your truck inspected, you can close the cutout.
My friend got a ticket for like $150 for "noisy exhaust"
