Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "TACOMA:Intake Kit", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hi, I'm new here and I have a 2005 Tacoma SR5 with the sport package, 4x4, 6 speed manual. Great truck, I was wondering if there was any intake kits for the 4.0? Seems like a pretty powerful engine, could be a little more powerful with some more air, or is the stock setup pretty good? Happy motoring
I've seen some intakes on the 4runners, some motor so I don't see why you couldn't get it to work on a Tacoma 4.0. I don't have any part numbers handy for you though.
Do they do any good on a Taco? Most Tundra folks who've tried them have taken them off. The kill the bottom end power.
Ken

PLEASE PLEASE for the love of the 1GR PLEASE remove that filter. It filters like crap. Get a K&N or A'PEXi
HAHAHAHAHA
K&N is a huge rip off only pay for a name..its the same thing...Trust me
I am not gonna spend 45bucks for a filter that this thing does the same thing. Dont fall into the hype of K&N they are not worth it. it would do the EXACT same thing....Trust me. plus K&N is known to get your MAF all dirty from its oils

Hmm..no MAF? SOunds like a 4" pipe and AFE Filter is on order for me...
No ther eis a MAF right at the TB...but the filter is further away from the TB...its just the box the filter is in is HUGE and a big POS..No its a 3" pipe at the TB...the pipe thats on the outside of the motor where that tube is 4"

Actually, the K&N/AEM/Injen are superior in filtering. You just have to watch how much oil you put on it.
Search the web for independent tests..
Well to me they are NO where near worth spending the amount they want for them. I had one of these type filters on my 2000 taco for 5years...NEVER had a problem. They work fine...

Wait, so fromt he filter to the box is 4", the box to the TB is 3", adn the MAF is somewhere ont hat 3" pipe?

no...the TB is a 3" inlet
on the box where that tube goes that is hooked up to my filter that hole is 4"....on the inside of the box is just a huge open area..no pipe in there

Oh my God, I'm done laughing so hard I had to wash my pants. I love those pix!. I have read post after post on intakes and filters and all the numbers and it is honestly worse than reading "all about having a baby" books and as Paul Harvey says, any parent knows "the rest of story. I burned all the books in the fireplace. I tried all the filters that are expensive and studied (no control group or baseline or Dyno) the dirt (or lack thereof) in the intake with a white pumic pad. That and "feel" led me to put my open cell foam Trueflow back in and left it in. But I feel a close equal to/ or less than is the Toyota stock filter and one member who had an oil analysis done verified the stock filter keeps the oil silicone (dirt) out the best..period. Member V8 toilets dyno numbers shows the stock filters on his V8 has the least impact, but I think he was interested mainly in his headers/muffler combo. I have a Tundra 4.7 V8 and live at 6700 feet and pull/haul stuff and don't race it. I just put JBA headers on, put the Toyota filter in, then put the Trueflow back in. Maybe the trueflow has a placebo effect. Being objective though, I am fiddling with filters, ECU, and a Unichip. After 500 miles or so in one configuration I will switch filters and see what happens. Love your intake "box"
