This is a discussion thread titled "I had a cracked manifold replaced today...", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
... on my 2003 v8 Tundra. I heard a ticking noise in the morning and upon acceleration and took it into the dealer. I told him that I had heard of cracked manifolds before and that I was sure I had a cracked one on the driver side. He didn't want to buy it, he thought I was ignorant when it comes to auto mechanics. To his surprise, a crack and a larger one for that matter. Long story short, I had the drivers side manifold replaced under warranty. Who would have thought at 27k miles a Toyota manifold would crack? I am having second thoughts on matters of longevity with Toyota's.

Wow! Did you also feel a lack of horsepower? (My VVT-i V-6 already makes some ticking noises but that's just the valves.)
I'm glad I purchased the extended warranty in my 05 Tacoma.
It's hard to imagine that there are any dealers left who have not seen a bunch of these trucks come in for manifold leaks. My original manifolds started leaking on the passenger side in 2000. Back then the dealer also claimed that they had never heard of/seen that before. I wonder when they will just tell you that they will take care of it, and come get your truck in the morning.

I would die a happy man if a dealer ever did ANYTHING that easily...

Hi, I am new to this forum and this is my first posting. I am seriously POed. I have a 2000 Tundra 4x4 TRD Access Cadin Thunda Grey SR5. I love it, except for the rate at which I am burning through exhaust headers!!! I have 75,000miles and I am on my third set. Now what really burns me up is that the second set were put in under warranty and I was not informed of this repair, just codes on work sheet. Now out of warranty and had to pay $1000 for third set! Had I known I would have brought it back sooner and why these things should every break at this rate points to a design fault!!!

Are you going through the stock manifolds or aftermarket headers? If it's the first, quit having them replaced and go with some JBA's. For about a $1000 you can get the headers and have someone install them. Not only will you be finished with the crack-prone stock manifolds, your truck'll run much better.

I was under the impression that by '03, the cracked manifold problem had been identified and pretty much cleared up, but maybe not? My late '03 has 38K on it, and so far, so good...no ticking noises. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I don't want to have to put headers on.

My dealer was more than happy to replace both manifolds, O2, gaskets and studs/nuts on mine free of charge, and i'm at 82K. I was there for an alignment and they asked when i can bring it in for new manifolds. I was surprised. Dropped it off the next day and picked it up in the afternoon all done. Good dealers are deffinately in the minority.
I had an exhaust leak from when they did the TSB on my CATS. Broght it back and they fixed that as well as replacing both manifolds. Didn't ask they just did it while it was there. They said both were cracked. 2003 Sequoia with 38k. $0 for all.
I wish they would have told me before doing it because I would have gotten the JBA's and had them put them on.
How do I know if I have cracked headers? I also hear a ticking noise from the front passengers side of the truck and it drives me nuts. It is obvious when near a building or wall. Anyways, I would have to spend $1000 and then find out that it wasn't the manifolds!
iam not to sure what exactly it soudns like on our tundras. when i accell lower rpm range i get what soudns like arock in my muffler, ive been thinkin its just a broken baffle in my spintich mufler, but also thought it might be the damn headders.
