Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Rebuild Stock Limited Slip", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I bought my truck with 50k miles on it and it has the stock limited slip option. I'm pretty sure it's outlived it's useful life as well as being fairly anemic to begin with. I'm weighing options (costs) of getting an ARB. If I do get an ARB it will be a while given the cost. I'm wondering if there's a way to rebuild the stock limited slip. Is there a kit with new clutch packs?

Hmmm. 50K, If you have a prob with the LSD - you might qualify it under the powertrain warranty
Everything that I have read and know would suggest that the LSD is not designed to last 50k miles.
Most LSDs don't live past 36K or so. Have not had any experience with the Eaton though...my experience is with Ford, and those had to be done every 36K or so...depending on usage, especially when spinning the tires!
That being said, there has to be a rebuild part number with shims, etc avail from your local dealer. Rebuilding these the first time can be a bit tricky. I've rebuilt my Ford 8" a few times with LSD.
The LSD has a different carrier than the open diff, not sure which one the ARB wants...but there are various 'lunchbox' lockers available---these are cheaper, but not quite as streetable as the ARB. (I have the No Slip) they would definately require using a different carrier (open vs. LSD)
Upgrades: PA 3" Body Lift, Powertrax No-Slip rear, Detroit ezLocker front, Fabtech/Fox front, Wheeler's AALs, TC Front Diff Drop, 16 x 8 MB Wheels, 285/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs, Pioneer Head Unit, Infiniti Reference speakers [front and rear], 150 W bridged amp to bandpass enclosure, 6 CD changer with IR remote, iPod mini and xm hardwired into stereo, Toyota drop in bedliner, and Tonneau cover

Thanks for your reply. The dealer seemed to be clueless about this. Both the parts guy and the service writer (see today's post http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...d.php?p=340209) seemed completely clueless. I figure there's one out there somewhere, I just have to find it. I have an email into Toyota corporate asking about a rebuild kit.

Call Bill G at anythingtoyota.com (link off to the left) they can get you Toy parts at a fraction of the price.

I'll give them a call. I suspect that I have to put in the same LSD as original unless I got to a locker that has it's own carrier. That's probably going to be the cheapest option when it comes down to it.
Call the folks at Randy's Ring & Pinion. They sell both genuine Toyota parts and aftermarket parts, better prices and availability than the dealerships, in my experience, and more knowledgeable. www.ringpinion.com
