This is a discussion thread titled "Tornadoe", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Has anyone tried that "Torado" air stimulator you see on TV? A friend of mine installed on his Chevy Z71 and is getting about 3 more miles to the gallon, plus additional horse power! What do yall think??

Do a search on this, most people have had no luck with it.

placing a metal object in the intake tube would rectrict the air flow. My friend tried it out and said that it was a big waste of money. I dont think anyone ever tested it on a dyno.

I didn't see any difference at all with that tornado thing...it was a waste of time to put it in the intake... not worth it...I'd use that thing for something else like give it my grandmother so she can maybe use it for her garden...hehe

That is the funniest thing I have heard this year!
Almost anything that can give better horsepower and get better gas mileage will be on from the factory. The "tornado" is just another snake oil product like the throttle body spacers.

throttle body spacers dont help toyotas or any other well-built, finely tuned engine. not exactly sure if they help any engine at all, as a matter of fact.

I remember when I was up at AEM and I discussed that same issue with the AEM people (they do have an intake spacer). Their response was that even they aren't exactly sure why it helps some vehicles and doesn't help others. They did mention that their testing showed it does not help the Tundra, which is why one is not included in the AEM intake kit.
I would guess that since the Tundra has a large intake plenum volume in the first place (part of Toyota's intake tuning) that the addition of the spacer doesn't do much. For vehicles that have a small intake plenum volume, the increase given by a spacer probably helps.
Probably the same reason some people get help out of something like a Tornado and others don't. The Tundra has fairly long, tuned intake runners and a large plenum volume, which is why most of the mods to the intake side don't seem to do as much: it's tuned fairly well from the factory.
