This is a discussion thread titled "Help for 2WD Tundra, getting stuck", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Heys guys I got my 2wd v8 tundra stuck yesterday while pulling my boat out at a dirt ramp. Other than the obvious, should have bought 4WD. What can I do to stop this? LSD, locker?

Better tires may help. I do not know what you got but if they are stock like mine they suck. Be easy on the gas so not to bury yourself. Also LSD will help alot.

I have come across a few steeper and slippier ramps over the last few years. Sounds like your boat is kind of heavy. My boat and trailer is about 5300 lbs. Only a few times have i had to put it in 4HI. Maybe you take any excess weight out of the boat - cooler, toys etc and also try not to have a full tank of gas when you pull it out. I can hold 70 gallons and at 8.66 lbs it's an extra 606 lbs. Tires do make a difference. Street tires just don't seem to cut it. I have BFG KO's and a dirt ramp may need them.
Try putting your parking brake on about 3/4" of the way. Then try to pull the boat out while easing on the gas. Once your in a safe spot, release the e-brake.
I have the LSD and it helped me get out of a rut while I was testing its off-road capabilities. If you have a 2wd then an LSD is a must...it works great when you need it.

Additional weight over the rear axle of the truck may also help-
towing a boat should be enough weight on the rear end, right??
My suggestion was more geared toward paved boat ramps (didn't see the part about dirt ramp)
- Boat trailering weight is not just determined by the weight of the boat-
The weight on the rear end of the tow vehicle is basically the just tongue weight- This can be altered by distibuting the relative weight in relation to the trailer.
By adding more weight over the rear axle of the truck - You will have some gain of traction- to help minimize rear tire spin.
So my suggestion was more for improving traction rather than gettin "unstuck"
yea, thats how I got out. I had my buddy stand on the bumper and it came right out. Good idea on the tongue weight, maybe I could try to shift the weight more to the tongue. The boat onlt weights 2500 pounds.
