and haven't already done so, RESET THE CPU. After I put my K&N air filter in, the accelerator was noticeably more responsive. Then I had my Borla's installed and the truck became almost sluggish. Well, after resetting the CPU, I got my power back, maybe a little more!!

Question Re: If you have aftermarket exhaust...

bugser....you're getting me paranoid!!

I installed a TRD filter back in July with no problem afterward or since. I have Borla's on order and don't anticipate any problems, but you scare me with talk of "Resettng the CPU". I don't know squat about any electronics and don't want to mess with anything I'm not familiar with. "Sluggish"....what do you mean? Sh*t!! Can I anticipate problems with performance after install?

Thanks....
John

All you have to do to reset the CPU is disconnect the battery for a couple hours. That's it.

Yea, it didn't perform bad. But i expected a slight gain in HP with the exhaust and didn't get it. Now I know why!! There's a thread close to here on resetting the computer where IZL describes which fuse to remove to accomplish the same thing. No biggie, just wish I had done it sooner!

Question Re: If you have aftermarket exhaust...

After I bought my Tundra, I got a TRD air filter and just stuck it in the proper place. Should I have reset the CPU?

Some say you should. Mine performed better after the air filter so, I didn't. In other words... I don't know!

Not to worry my friends, with the K&N filter and Borla installed you will be fast, fast, fast. Reseting the ECU is the final Jolt that will make your Frankenstein come to life. Just as a passing note, before the exhaust and filterectomy my MPG was not even 15MPG. Now I average 17 1/2 MPG and that Extra HP and That sweet low tone will give you goosebumps when you gun it!

AINTNOFORD,
I noticed in your signature that you have a "Jett" chip.....could you describe? Also, can you share the step-by-step for resetting the ECU? Thanks.

John

The Jett chip is actually a Reprogramed Toyota ECU. The way I reset my ECU, was to disconnect the Neg from the battery for an Hour. Then came back and reconnected the Neg to the battery. The hard part was finding something to do for an hour!

OK, now come clean. Does resetting the ECU really make a difference and can you really do it by pulling the neg. battery cable? I have my TRD duals installed, and everything was great. They then installed my TRD headers and I could swear I don't have the acceleration or mid-range pull I had before, but I thought it was in my mind.

I'm not sure if you guys are serious or just pulling our collective legs, but when I get my Tundra back tomorrow from getting a Clifford installed, I am going to try it......

I did an exhaust upgrade on my Tundra about 3 weeks ago but my fuel economy went from 15.5 to about 14. I didn't disconnect the battery though.

Maybe I should reset the CPU? The truck is noticeably more responsive I am just getting worse mileage.

Any suggestions?

Just pull the fuse for the ECU in the fuse compartment under the hood. (Saves having to reset all your radio presets!)
