Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Strange tiking noice when accelerate a Taco 05", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Can anyone tell me if your 2005 Taco make noice like a manifold leak o a valve
tiking? It only do that noice when it is running. If you put in neutral and hit the gas it doesnot do the tiking....

Yeah mine does it as well. Sounds like my dad's old 70's Land Cruiser. I thought it was more the fuel injectors clicking on and off at a more agressive rate.

That sounds like the noise that has been debating ad nauseum on this forum. The general consensus is that it is normal with that engine. Supposedly, the 4Runners from the last year or two (however long they've been using that engine) have that same noise.

Daggone Right!

yep, word is that the electrical ground makes that noise.
Everyone has it on the v6's
Wha wha wha what? as an electrical engineer....I'll just pretend I didn't read that.
Mine makes this suttle tick as well. But only when pulling a load and generally only while the engine is not fully warmed up. My old Taco did it too. Apprently, can't say for sure, there is an extra injector for cold starts and cold engine running. It acts like a choke. Again, not 100% sure. But that could be the noise. I run 94 Octane in my truck so it's not pinging or the like.
i have the ticky ticky and flutter flutter sound too...
Has anyone else had the fluttering noise at start-up? My doesn't do it all the time. Only on a cold start and only once in a while. It sounds like a card in bike spokes.
that's exactly what i hear every morning when i go to work.
i find that if you wam up the truck for a minute or so before driving, it's not as bad.

The noise is definately valvetrain noise. My '05 has 3500 miles on and its been to the dealer 4 times for the noise. They tried to tell me its exhaust leak and Toyota Tech told them to put new manifolds on. Same noise...like they didn't even verify after the replacement!!!
Toyota Tech is aware of the problem but everybody should be getting to the dealers with those noisey 4.0's. The more documented the problem is, the faster the repair will come, which they are supposidly working on anyway.
Also, I run 87 octane since that is what they are made to run on. I decided to try high test..same noise, same mileage, same power.
Mine also does it most when cold but has been getting worse when warmed up. Glad its documented incase it grenades!!!
I havent heard that sound(card in bike spokes) yet I guess. I do have the sound that when accelerating it kinda sounds like an exhaust leak. I thought that was the normal sound everyone has been talking about? And the squeaky leaf spring on the rear on the drivers side. That's going in next week, cause its about to drive me nuts.
