Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "larger tip robs hp?", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I was trolling the forum when I saw someone who posted saying that a larger tip on the exhaust will rob you of a few horsepower. To me, if the pipes are the stock diameter and length, a larger tip wouldn't make any difference. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks guys.

I highly doubt if you would lose any hp, by installing a lager tip. Maybe a dyno run would show something, but I don't think you would notice anything. By putting a larger tip, 3"-4" would just make you exhaust sound different, just a lower rumble the bigger the tip, but this is just my .02

No loss. After my wife put on a spintech for me for my birthday, which did make a difference in power, I went back a week later to have a 3 inch lipped tip put on. It made absolutely no difference in power, put it made the exhaust throatier, and a bit louder.

You'd have to hang two footers (obviously in length) on it to have a noticable change

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
