Engine & DrivetrainDiscussions about the engine and drivetrain of your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "RAPS (Ram-Air Performance System)", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've been looking around at this RAPS system...but can't seem to find ANY feedback on this product, positive or negative. Anybody out there have one installed and have some comments on it?
The idea behind it seems sound, but I had a K&N FIPK installed on my '96 Firebird, w/o a heatshield...and had no issues with "air that is too hot."
Any comments?

But, would your performance have been better with cooler air? Likely. Cooler air is denser and contains more oxygen per volume. The engine's computer controls will supply more max fuel with denser air.

Hey,
I've had it work well w/the K&N intake for over 45K miles now.... At least 1 mpg better and more throttle response over 40mph.....

I agree completely with you, but the opinions I have been reading about the kit for the 4.7L have been about 50/50 in terms of position. But comments on the negative side...I'm seeing alot in the direction of, "I had massive losses." Just trying to determine if the RAPS system is a worthwhile addition. Trying to get some extra input from the populous.

cold air is always better...the only draw back on a raps kit is your air filter will catch a few more bugs than the original intake from the fender. and if you have skeeters like they do in North Carolina....you will be cleaning up dead bugs on that filter pretty often

I have it with my regular air box. Works fine, and as advertised. I used it in conjunction with the FIPK II also, like it better with the stock box.

Where did you read about "Massive losses" w/the RAPS kit....?? You must be talking about the K&N FIPK intake..?? The RAPS kit will help out in getting some of the low end back that the FIPK supposedly takes away......
To find more feedback from the populous, go to the top of the page and click on Search and then choose "Advanced Search"; Search on Key Word "raps" and "Search Titles Only". You'll get a lot of hits. I believe this is what Jack Burton did with the link he provided below. However I think the search ID times out after awhile?? At any rate, additional thread links and quotes are available at http://ramairperformance.com in the FAQ.
Feel free to drop me a PM if you have any additional questions...
Seee-ya,
Jim.

Sorry, I didn't clarify, you are right, the losses were supposedly coming from the FIPK. I've heard enough about the RAPS kit, and am going to order one shortly...because I do believe it is definately worth the money.
to everyone for the input!
