Default Checklist for LSD install

Well, it looks like I'm going to have my TRD/Kazuma LSD installed next weekend. I just wanted to know what I need in order for the install to go smooth (driving out about an hour to get to the shop). I read on a previous post that it requires an 'install kit' from the dealer. Anyone have a part number for the kit and what does it include? Do I need new bearings, shims, or anything else? I currently have 55K miles.

Also, what kind of LSD diff fluid do I use? Should I go with synthetic?

You dont need any install kit if you are just swapping out carriers while retaining your stock ring & pinion - it is Unlikely you will need to reshim

Here is what I used for my bro's LSD install - in the above link:

2) rear axle seals
2) carrier bearing 90366-51001
1) tube RTV (FIPG) - You can use the precut toyota gasket also
~3.X qts of gear oil
The TRD LSD should include 1 tube of friction modifier

I changed the axle seals even though they were still good- its up to you - but it doesn't hurt to have a spare pair in case they are damaged upon removal/re-installation of the rear axles shafts

I also changed the carrier bearings - these can be recycled if they are not damaged upon removal - However- I'd recommend new bearings

On a previous discussion - Toyota & Eaton may recommend dino gear lube plus the additive-
I believe the key is the additive and I am indifferent about the use of synth or dino gear lube
In the pics above- Redline synthetic gear oil was used with the addition of a tube of the lsd friction modifier

I got the Toyota gasket kit from the dealership plus a pair of carrier bearings. We tried to pull my old bearings without damage, but couldn't do it. I could have gotten genuine Toyota parts from Randy's Ring & Pinion for less that the dealership charged. www.ringpinion.com

I used a synthetic blend gear oil that already has the LSD additive in it. I didn't need more, and too much is not better. I'd suggest using your choice of synthetic 75W-90 gear oil. If the label says it is suitable for LSD, it has the additive. Try several slow figure-8 turns to work the oil into the new clutches. If you don't have chatter, you're good. If it does chatter, add 1/4 tube at a time. Too much additive may cause the clutches to slip.

We also needed carrier bearing shims to set the gear backlash. I got them from Randy's faster and cheaper than from a dealership...they were only stocked in the Toyota L.A. warehouse.
