This is a discussion thread titled "Loudest Exhaust", within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Whats the loudest exhaust for the tundra? I have a Borla and wish it was louder. I hear chevys with that sound real good with Borlas and Flowmasters. Thanks.
just go to Midas and have a 2 chambered raven installed that'll be plenty loud, cheap and free up as much as any other brand name muffler....just alittle cheaper.

If you want more noise (why do people want this?) you might have an independent muffler shop cut out the resonator in front of the Borla catback system and replace it with a straight pipe. While they are doing that, have them replace that restrictive "Y" pipe right in front of the resonator with a more free-flowing Y. This is assuming your truck came with the 48 state emissions and doesn't have that third catalytic converter where the resonator normally is.
For the loudest and most annoying exhaust, just have a muffler shop fabricate a true dual exhaust with glass packs and no crossover pipe. This is probably what the Chevy guys are running.
I have a Flowmaster 70 series on my Tundra and it isn't very loud. I went to the SoCal Mini Jam and there were a few trucks there with TRD and Bassani exhausts that were louder than mine.
I have the Bassani split side eXhaust and love it. When it was first installed, it was loud but sounded good. After about a month it started to get mellower (sweeter) in it's sound. After 17K miles, the sound has continued to evolve and is not obnoxiously loud at all. It will get your attention on a cold start up though (kinda like a finely tuned NASCAR engine when it starts). Normal acceleration and driving is about the same as a Mustang 5.0L driving around. Full acceleration produces a full bodied roar (and hang on). The kit does not have a Y pipe or a resonator. The straight pipes are quieter than the split side because the resonated tips are considerably longer. The materials and construction are first rate stainless steel, including the muffler (weighs 60lbs alone. The whole kit weighs 80lbs. I think it will outlast the truck. The audio clip that is available on this site was done by Alaskan Tundra when he first installed it over a year ago. He has straight dual exit pipes (longer tips). Hope all this info helps. Good luck on your choice.
This isnt exactly on topic but might help. I have a Tacoma w/ the 3.4. I am running 3" exhaust w/ a 3" Dynomax ultraflow stainless. Now, for a str8t through muffler it isn't the loudest thing I've heard.. until about 2000 rpms it doesnt come on super loud.. around there it picks up and sounds AMAZING all they way out. Gets damn loud by the time you hit 5k. I was extremely happy w/ the sound, and its slowly getting louder as it works in. Sounds like Camaro SS or Cobra (when they are stock or close too it). Not bad for a V6 ! My first night driving it, had to people about run me down to find out what i had and stuff.. pretty exciting !
Anyway, I'm sure it would sound even beefier and meaner on the V8.. I would run 2 of these 3" str8t through mufflers... I'm sure w/ a dual setup it would get DAMN loud !
If loud is all you want, why bother with mufflers at all. Go with twin pipes out the sides some big freaking tips.
I once had an 82 Toy pickup with a 22R engine. I had a Tri-Y header, 2 1/4" pipe through a Borla free flowing muffler(you could hold it up and look thru it from the IN to OUT).
It was LOUD, and the sound sucked. I had the Borla cut off and some other turbo muffler put on, It was a little quieter and sounded a whole lot better.
I know that it is a personal preference, but to me , louder isn't always better.
Good luck in your quest.
Easy to get real loud, remove the silencer located past the cats and before the exhaust, in california this would normally be the 3rd cat converter. If its not loud enough then you can add the flowmaster 2 or 3 chamber mufflers to replace stock.
Loudest?!...Very carefully, using a hole saw...cut eight 3-inch holes directly above the exhaust ports on your hood or remove the hood and have a body shop do the job. Then, run individual custom made, mandrel bent pipes (chrome would look real cool) straight up through the hood but being carefull to make the pipes direct the flow high enough that you don't get exhaust flow over your windshield but as short as you need to do this in order to reduce wind drag...You're all set...and you'll be the "talk of the shop" at the dealer when you get the regularly scheduled maintinence...
If you want VERY LOUD but not all the time have a shop put a cut out on it. For those who don’t know; this is just a straight pipe out of the exhaust system that will bypass the muffler. When you want the loud open the cut out up, if you don’t want it, close it. They have screw on type caps or you can have a mechanical flap made that can be opened and closed from the cab. You can have any type of muffler installed (or keep the stock muffler) to drive around with when you have it closed.

I've been a chevy guy all my life after selling toyota for a while i realized what ridiculous quality they have. When i working at Bob Howard Toyota in OKC,OK the new Tundra wasn't out yet but the rumors of a 400 horse tundra captivated me. I thought they were not going to be available in a reg cab short bed. I about made my fourth silverado purchase before I figured i would just go check the new tundra out. I ordered the truck without even driving a reg cab short bed cuz the crew max 4x4 was impressing. I was kinda hesisitant for the next few hours after just because im a chevy guy. After reading the reviews, especially from motor trend, i was sold. They kinda dogged the crew max and double cab but the quote talking about the reg cab short bed, " the regular cab with the regular bed which delivered killer perfromance...", just really sold me. I loved how they talk about people being loyal to their brands. Thats just foolishness if you ask me but nobody has asked so there it is. Anyway thats just a really brief synopsis me. This is my first post and it was suppose to be about exhaust so anyway..I haven't even taken delivery of my new 07 tundra reg cab short bed 5.7 sport app. pkg yet. but i was just gonna talk about my 04 silverado reg cab short bed w/ 5.3 I have jba headers, volant cold air intake, 4.10 gears, flowmaster 40's w/ 5" tips dumped directly out of the muffler pointed slightly to the ground for echo effect and i also have diablo sport predator micro tuner. Anyway my truck is RIDICULOUSlY loud!!! OH i also cut the cats off. Man it sounds like its from the 5th ring of hell. Seriously. it screams. I love it in town but on the highway it gets really annoying if your're takin a road trip. So anyway that's just a little fyi bout me. Hopefully my truck will be here today. I'm so freaking amp'd. TRD supercharger is coming fellas. Which hopefully will add more than 20-30 horse. Haven't heard good things about TRD blowers but maybe they'll get it right. BIG 3= 3 stooges!!! Well i still love chevy though. Man their new SEMA silverado is BAD! have to say i like it better than the tundra. that bad boy has a 427!! and it is so fresh and so clean. alright y'all happy tundra'n! will post pics as soon as i get it.
