Default Anyone ever notice a MPG increase after changing ALL Fluids to Synthetic?

Years and years ago while working in a local auto racing hop up shop (R&E Racing, Lancaster CA) I remeber one job that may have merrit today. A lifted big Ford full size 4X4 truck (this was in the 80's) came in and we changed out all the various fluids with Redline stuff......Engine, tranny, transfercase and both diffs. The guy came back a week later and told us his milage went up 1MPG.
These days it might be worth the expense to get a MPG more.

What do you guys think...anyone have a simular experience with a Toyo?

Hey G,

I think it would be hard to quantify your gains by adding synthetic fluids by themselves but IMO it wouldn't hurt... I felt that my engine revved faster (and jumps higher... ) after adding Royal Purple synthetics. I think Hot Rod mag & RP proved a 3% hp gain just by adding RP's racing oils*....

Why not give your engine the benefits of synthetics anyway...??!!!

JB

The next oil change I might just swap 'em all out......trucks got over 20K on it now......should be good and broke in....I'll have to research all the differant fluids....engine oil, auto tranny, transfer case front diff and rear LSD to make sure I get the correct stuff.

Tranny your pretty much SOL. The '03 and '04 need Toyota T-IV which there is no approved syn replacement for. If warranty is no issue some used amsoil and added lubegaurd black friction modifier with acceptable results to them. All the rest of the fluids can be acquired in Synthetic version.

On my Corolla I fill up and write down mileage/date/gallons everytime. Been doing it on every car I ever had (Dad's fault but it's a good thing). I can vouch that my Corolla gets 1.5 to 2 mpg more when I run Mobil 1 as compared to other Dino's. I don't beat on the car but it is definitely not driven easy either. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear will see 5,000 rpm shifts at least 60% of the time. My last fill up 2 days ago resulted in 32 mpg, not bad for a 12 year old, 192k mile vehicle. My best tank ever was about 7 years ago right after an M1 change followed by a 10 hour trip to North Carolina. Easy driving, temp in upper 60's, no A/C just vent, cruising 60-70 mph and I got 42 mpg followed by a 40 mpg on the way home a week later. Closest since then has been 37 max and normally 27-29 with Dino, 30-32 with Syn.
